Hotel Lutecia - has anyone stayed or eaten there?
 

Has anyone stayed or preferably eaten at the Hotel Lutecia in Paris? My father used to race in the Paris 6 hour speedboat race and mentioned that they used to stay at the Hotel Lutecia. I would love to take my parents for a meal there or even for afternoon tea or a drink but I have no idea what its like, whether the food is any good or how expensive it is. Any input would be appreciated.

Oops, that should be hotel "Lutetia" rather than "Lutecia".

Some people have said that comfort at the Lutetia depends greatly on what room you get--and that the hotel is somewhat overpriced. I'd check the reviews at tripadvisor.com. It's a 4* hotel and accordingly expensive; so perhaps going just for a drink would be the best plan.

thank you. i've found their website and their bars actually look quite fun but I thought the brasserie looked very small so perhaps you're right.

I stayed at the Lutecia for a week in 2000. Our room was spacious and clean, the staff was friendly and professional. We did have dinner in the hotel restaurant one night, and I recall that it was fine ... nothing spectacular, but good.
I think the room cost us about $200 per night at the time. I would stay there again, but undoubtedly it is more expensive now.

We stayed at the Lutetia for several nights in February 2003. We had a "junior suite", I believe, with a sitting area, a king-sized bed, and a split bathroom arrangement with the w/c and sink in one room and another room with the tub/shower and sink. The room was clean and attractively furnished, but with a less-than-desirable view of the interior courtyard. I think that it was 320 euro per night, but I was on an expense account at the time so price wasn't the key concern.

The lobby reception area has a cozy bar, and an extended space with tables, chairs, and settees where you can also enjoy a beverage and enjoy the ambience of this larger hotel. We had breakfast in the restaurant, which was quite good, and struck me as the most reasonable part of our stay although I can't recall the exact price.

The Lutetia definitely has a different character - it is the only "large" hotel in that left bank area. I think that tea, or evening cocktails would give you the experience of this hotel without incurring the expense of an overnight there.

Actually there is another large hotel on the left bank called Hotel Pont Royal which, in my opinion, looks more appealing than the Lutetia. I'd prefer the Pont Royal's location more too. The Lutetia is further from the river but very close to Au Bon Marche dept. store.

We stayed at the Lutetia a couple of years ago. Liked the location and our room was gorgeous- and large - but I understand some are smaller. This is a very large and traiditonal old hotel that was completely redone about (I believer) 5 years ago. did not eat there - except for breakfast and drinks - which were fine. Would use it agian in a minute if the price was right (we got a great deal - about $150 for a super double - through corporate travel.)

We stayed there about four years ago. It was a lovely hotel. Although the rooms were not large, they were fine for two unrelated/uninvolved women. Don't know what the rate was because it was a package deal. I do know that one of the group of four on this trip has travelled extensively and can afford to stay anywhere and stays here whenever she is in Paris.

I haven't eaten there but have read decent reviews of their brasserie. If the idea is for old times, I don't think just going to some other hotel in the area will be the same, and the Lutetia really is special and has a certain style. I've been to Pont Royal and it's nice (haven't stayed there), but it isn't very large (about 75 rooms), nothing like the Lutetia which is quite large and has several hundred rooms (more like 250).

I am actually staying there on the advice from a friend of mine who is a clothing designer in NYC. The Hotel has a huge history during WWll. The bar is suppose to have some of the best jazz on the left bank and is close to the metro.We are very excited to stay there..

My only suggestion is to go online and get info about the specific room you are staying in. I understand some of the regular rooms are very small - we had plenty of room but we booked a suite.

We stayed once in their cheapest room. It was horrible. Small and worn out, perhaps those rooms have now been renovated.

We stayed there as part of a flight-hotel package so of course we got a very small, dingy room. On complaining to the front desk we were moved to a lovely room with a view of the Eiffel Tower.

We did eat breakfast there and enjoyed the lounge with music in the evening. A Metro station is directly across the street, plus alot of shops in the area(shoe stores are in abundance).

Did we like it? Yes, but now we prefer to stay on Ile St. Louis.

We had dinner there about 10 years ago before a concert at St. Sulpice. The mashed potatoes were divine but I don't remember another thing about the meal. One of our favorite restaurants is about 2 blocks away - L'Epi Dupin on Rue Dupin.

An acquaintance of mine stayed there some years ago and liked it. However, he said he was in a junior suite. I think he said the suite was split level. It was very expensive. it was his first trip to Paris, with his fiance, so he had no other hotel to compare the Hotel Lutetia to. Happy Travels!

My in-laws visit Paris often - always stay at the Lutetia snd recommend it. It also has a very interesting history..it was the headquarters for French citizens returning from concentration camps .. where they were repatriated (if that's the word).
