Hi angel88: If you fax the Hotel Lorelei, you can ask for an email confirmation back. They do not have a computer; however, they were kind enough to go next door and use the Hotel Mignon's computer to reply to me. I got a 95 euro/night rate (incl breakfast) for a double, seaview room at end of September (4 mos ago).

Thanks so much for your replies, I will fax them and will check out the photo. Is this hotel expensive? The rate you have mentioned sounds very good. Any other suggestions for nice and affordable accom for family of 4. It doesn't have to be upmarket just good location, a view would be nice but not mandatory. Thanks

No, this is THE least expensive hotel with marvelous seaviews you will ever find in Sorrento. All the other properties are 4* and 5* with rates upwards of 300-500/euros a night.

Alternatively, there are cheaper properties near and around the Circumvesuviana train station but you wouldn't have any sea views from those properties.

I stay at the Hotel Lorelei et Londres every time I am in Sorrento because I love its central location (only 10-15 min walk from the Circumvesuviana train station) and its quaint ambiance. It is an old, family-run hotel and is a bit worn around the edges, but I think that lends to its unique charm. If you want a seaview room, be sure to request room #s 11, 12, or 14. The rooms have huge terraces that you walk out on with table/chairs, and plenty of room to lounge around in. Not to mention the lovely lemon grove/garden facing the Bay of Naples. You could request a double room (=doppia) and ask for an extra large bed (=letto matrimoniale) to be brought in. That way the rates can be kept low, versus having to get two adjoining double rooms and paying for 2 separate room rates (unless, of course, you want 2 separate rooms).

I tried to book a seaview room at the Loreley but the management refused to guarantee the room would be a seaview. I will be arriving fairly late in the day so I didn't want to take the chance of not getting a room with a view. Maybe I should have offered to pay more. What is your secret to getting a seaview room?

I have stayed here off and on over the years and they won't guarantee a seaview room for me either at least on the first night, they will change you to a better room as they become available. If you are getting there late in the day, I doubt if you will get one unless that is what they have left. Good Luck.

Hi again SeaUrchin: We both love this place :) You are so right....they ended up putting me in Room #5, but due to the street noise (those darn Vespas!), I requested a move. I was moved the next morning downstairs to a lovely, quiet room fronting the lemon garden and Bay of Naples!

PBH, you will probably have to wait until the next morning to be switched, but don't think it will be a problem to do so.

The Loreley and Londres is closed. Safety work was being conducted when we last saw it in October 20010 and there is little likelyhood of its re-opening. It is a sad demise to the traditional style old hotel. We stayed there twice around 2004 and enjoyed the location even though its run down state was increasingly evident. The top floor room with views over the harbour was idylic.

Thank you very, very much for posting with an update on the status of the Lorelei et Londres. I stayed there years ago (early 90s) and loved it. The service and ambience were wonderful, the views fabulous. Eating in their garden was an unforgettable experience. It was a romantic and charming place. I knew they were closed for renovations, but I wanted to stay there at least once more. I tried contacting them. I e-mailed Sorrento's tourist bureau, some hotel reservaion agencies, and posted requests here on Fodors, all to no avail.
I am sad it is not to be, but I can let it go and be happy I had a chance to stay there when it was still beautiful.
