Hotel Location

Message: My travel agent suggested the following hotels - has anyone ever stayed at these hotels - if so, what are your thoughts? I've heard that some hotels can be in a busy location and it can be difficult to get a good night sleep.

Rome - Savoy Rome or D'Inghilterra
Florence - De La Ville Firenze or G.H. Baglioni
San Gimignano - Leon Bianco
Venice - Luna Baglioni or Giorgione

Thanks.

We haven't stayed at the Leon Bianco but it has an excellent location--right on the main square and if my memory serves me right, it has a parking garage which is an incredible plus (assuming you have a car, of course!!!) I would not worry at all about noise in SG--after the daytrippers leave it is quite quiet.

We have stayed at La Cisterna and Antico Pozzo in SG and were very happy at both.

Here are some comments:

- Rome: hotel Savoy. I spent quite a few sleepless nights (or early wake-ups) at this hotel as it is very noisy (street noise and internal noise). Unless they refurbished the place and made it really sound-proof...

- Venice : Giorgione is a nice hotel (Italian 4 star, i.e. regular first class)and is located 5 mn from Rialto bridge (their garden is a plus in summer), while the Luna Baglioni is more a Luxury hotel located just next to San Marco. Prices should be quite different too.

- Florence : I went to the Grand Hotel Baglioni just for a business lunch and their restaurant offers a wonderful view over the Duomo (food was good too), but I cannot advise about rooms. Anyway the location is very good.

We stayed at the Leon Bianco in SG, and liked it very much. The garage was indeed a plus, but it was funny as the man would have to go out and juggle all the cars each day. It has a narrow entrance which is blocked by the last couple of cars which have to be backed out into the square --maybe sometimes as many as 5 or 6 cars total to get to yours, but they do it with a smile, and they handle the parking for you. The room and service was wonderful there.

Thanks for all of your help. We are happy for the most part with our travel agents choices with exception to Rome. I think I'll research further and choose another hotel.

Karen
