Hotel Le Vignon - Paris
 

Wondering if anyone has stayed at this hotel before in Paris? It's rated #14 on tripadvisor...but I'm not sure of the location. Wondering if any fodorites have opinions? Thanks!

It's located in the 8th district but descriptions say it's close to the Madeline/Opera/Dept. Store areas. I would suggest, as a first time visitor, you stay in the 4th through 6th districts as these are near many sights and nice restaurants.

Aren't Madeleine and the Opera 'sights'? Don't people in the 8th eat well? Doesn't the President live in the 8th sometimes? It can't be too bad ;)

I stayed in the area last month and I can tell you it's lovely. It's lively at daytime and quieter at night but still beautiful and I was grateful to myself for having booked there. In fact, I consider returning to the hotel I stayed in, something I never do - each time I go to Paris I change locations.
I can also tell you I much prefer it to the 4th-6th, parts of which I find unbearably noisy and crowded. I suggest you go ahead and make a reservation and think you won't regret it.

The boulangerie/patisserie on rue Castellane, right across from the hotel, is fabulous, and there's an art book store that looks interesting on rue Tronchet, very close by.
Fauchon and Hediard food stores are just there, too, as is la Maison du Miel, right next to the hotel, where you can find dozens of different honey brands.

Across the streeet, next to the Madeleine church, there's a small food market that operates on Tuesdays and Fridays.

You're in walking distance to the Opéra, Madeleine, Concorde, the department stores and the Louvre. A quick Métro ride (good transporation option in the area) will take to you to the Eiffel Tower, the Orsay museum and Saint Germain. You can also walk to the gorgeous Jacquemart-André museum, where you can have a branch on Sunday morning.

The beautiful small Nissin de Camondo museum and the Parc Monceau, too, are wonderful places to visit and relax, respectively.
On the way there, take a look at the restaurant which is called Pomez and is located on boulevard Haussmann. I haven't tried it but it looks interesting, I think it serves Normandy specialities.
As you can see, there's no shortage of sights in the neighbourhood.

Travelnut, I guess Paris has only 3 arrondissements, rather than 20. I tell you, I walked by the Regent last month and what can I say - can't think of a worse location to stay in. :)
