Hotel Jeanne D'Arc - Paris

I just read where there's two hotels with this name in Paris and one is alot nicer than the other one. I made reservations at the one on 43 Bld. St. Marcel. 75013.Is this the nice one?

marcy_ Oct 29th, 2004 08:20 PM

I don't know, Blondie..
I thought the nice one was in the Marais, at 3, rue de Jarente 75004. Beatchick has stayed there, and says good things about it.

...The one you have booked is NOT the one frequently listed in guide books..you have booked in the 13th and the popular hotel freq mentioned on this site is in the forth (le marais)...never been to the one you have booked in. The one on rue de Jarente in good value (but definitely 2 star only) in a fabulous location.

no, that is definitely NOT the recommended one. Someone wrote a bad report on the one on bd St Marcel, but I don't know anyone else who has stayed there. I've seen it and it looks okay from the outside and is a convenient location (near a metro and some restaurants), although most first-timers would probably prefer elsewhere. I'd suggest you cancel since this way you are just booking an anonymous hotel for no reason except by accident.

I have to agree with all the others. The recommended one is in the Marais. It is a very simple hotel. I like staying there. But nothing more than 2 stars. I love the location.
Sorry, you have booked the wrong Jeanne d'Arc!

blondiepopo Oct 30th, 2004 09:05 AM

I am cancelling my reservation for the wrong one, and I got confirmation last night that I have reservations for the right one. Confusing - if I wouldn't have seen the posting here somewhere I would have gone to the wrong one and been :( I don't need a full service hotel so if it's clean, safe and a great location, it'll be fine.

Margie Oct 30th, 2004 09:53 AM

You will love the location of the "Right" one. Have a wonderful trip!

Beatchick Oct 30th, 2004 03:36 PM

Yes, yes, you will LOVE the location of the "right" one! Blondiepopo, did you see The Bourne Identity? For a very brief flash in the movie it shows the Place du marché Ste-Catherine, a charming, cozy tree-shaded little sqare just around the corner of the hotel. I walked thru here every morning on my way out to enjoy it's peace and wandered thru here at night to enjoy the hubbub. Don't worry, the noise doesn't travel to the hotel.

On that square are lots of restaurants.

The Place des Vosges is just a five minute walk away.

Please tell Stephan I said Bonjour!

Will do - I did see Bourne Identity - will have to watch it again for that area.

After reading about the hotel Jeanne D'Arc in the Marais, when Beatchic stayed there, I have recommended that my son stay there in March, when he is in Paris for a week.

elaine Nov 1st, 2004 09:23 AM

for future reference, the preferred hotel in the Marais has the full name of

GRAND Hotel Jeanne d'Arc

We stayed there in 2003 -- (the Marais) it is basic, the staff is VERY good, don't buy their breakfast though, as there as so many wonderful patisseries in the neighborhood you can do WAY better :)

Beatchick Nov 1st, 2004 10:54 AM

Agreed, Uhoh! So many great places for breakfast on the rue St-Antoine.

Scarlett, I think your son will love the place. I can send him my Inexpensive Restos list in case he's on a budget. I hope you'll be able to make a visit to Paris to meet him in March!

Elaine is absolutely correct!

I wouldn't recommend staying at the Jeanne d'arc in the Marais. Although it is cheap, you get what you pay for. I also question about and security at the hotel.

You can see two thing I wrote about the hotel on my weblog.
