Hotel Jazz or Gallery Hotel in Barcelona

I am considering these two hotels. Which location is better? Which has better amenities? I know the Jazz has a pool, which I am not interested in, but am wondering about the locations and which is the nicer hotel. Any and all feedback, opinions or comments will be welcome.

We looked at the Gallery when we wer there in July. It looked very nice and the location was perfect. Next time we visit Barcelona we'll stay there.

Anyuone else familiar with these hotels?

luvtosee,
I'm familiar with both.

The Gallery has a "posher" location at the top of the Left Eixample, near the Diagonal, but this makes it a quite a longer walk to the Gothic Quarter, El Born, the Ramblas, the seafront. But it's quite a chic address (we've stayed nearby). I really like this neighborhood, but I'm a frequent visitor to the city.

In terms of style and amenities, it's an older, but a tad more elegant property (seems to me), and rooms have CD players, queen and king beds, bathrobes, slippers, umbrellas, make- up mirror in marble bath. 24 hr. room service. The Cafe del Gallery has live music on Thurs. evenings in summer.
Guests have free gym privileges.

The Jazz, a fairly new hotel, is closer to the city's epicenter, the Plaça de Catalunya, and thus, you'll be in closer proximity to the sights of the Ciutat Vella (Old City) and you'll have shorter walks for your sightseeing. The area, though, is more "bustling" and more filled with tourists than the upper Left Eixample.

As for style, to me it seems more "hip, trendy" and maybe draws a younger clientele. And it's extremely popular (#4 on Trip Advisor), due to its central location.

So it depends, I think, on the style and type of location you prefer.

Maribel,
Thanks so much for your detailed response. I have a much clearer idea about these hotels now...but still am undecided. Could you please tell me how much farther The Gallery is from the major sights than the Jazz? Are tourist sights walking distance? The Gallery sounds like a lovely hotel, but I dont want to be too far away. Also, are there good cafes etc. near both hotels?

luvtosee,
Cafes abound near both hotels-plenty of dining options in either area.

The Gallery is nicely located on Roselló between Rambla de Catalunya and Passeig de Gracia (a chic spot), so you have lots of options there.

The distance from the Gallery to the city's epicenter, Plaça de Catalunya is about 8 blocks (but longish, not like Manhattan's short north-south blocks).

But because the Gallery is so close to the Passeig de Gracia, you're just steps from some of the spectacular Moderniste architecture-Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, Casa Amatller.
It's 10 blocks to the Sagrada Familia.

The Jazz on Pelai is only 1 1/2 blocks from the Plaça de Catalunya, making it an easier walk for sightseeing in the Ciutat Vella (cathedral, Palau de la Música Catalana), El Born (Picasso Museum), waterfront (Museu Marítim).

But for easy, really effortless sightseeing to all of the above and others further afield, like those on Montjuïc (MNAC and Miró Foundation) and the Parc Güell, you can also use the handy Bus Turistic (hop on and off).
