Hotel Jazz or Casa Camper in Barcelona?

I am trying to choose between these 2 hotels. I love the idea of Casa Camper, but I am traveling as a single woman, and I'm unsure as to whether the neighborhood will be safe for walking later at night.

Which would be better for a single female traveler -Casa Camper or Hotel Jazz?

Thanks for your opinions.

Trying once again.

Casa Camper is in my neighborhood and literally right across from where I work when in BCN. I cannot recommend the hotel enough! The neighborhood is not the best, I admit, but walking down Bonsuccess (which becomes Elisabets. . . Camper's street) is agreeable and very tame. Also, the MACBA plaza is always full of people at night. Granted, they are usually drunk and stoned skateboarders, but they are a safe crowd as far as I have experienced.

Thank you for the reply laclaire. Everyone seems to love this hotel, the problem being the neighborhood. If I was traveling with another person, there would be absolutely no question that I would stay at Casa Camper. But, your description of the neighborhood hasn't totally convinced me. I love walking and I am sure that I will ten walking alone long after dark.

Well, I am not going to lie about the neighborhood, but I want to make it clear that Elisabets is not just some small, random side street, but an important commercial strip during the day and at night is a main thoroughfare for people headed to and from nightlife.

Hotel Jazz is on Carrer Pelai, which is a very busy street that connects Plaza Catalunya with Plaza Universitat. It is located on a corner and though I have never stayed there, I would ask about traffic noise. Gran Via, Pelai, and Universitat are all busy streets and aside from honking, you deal with vespas and motos which are often rigged to make a really loud zipping noise. At least get a high-up room.

I can see how traveling alone would make you hesitant to take a room at Camper, so go ahead and do Jazz. I do, though, recommend that you walk around in the Camper area and visit the MACBA. It is so gentrified in that area now that it will probably disspell any fears you had. Though if you are used to American cities other than LA and New York, you might feel scandalized.

Also, the MACBA plaza is under 24 hour surveilance by both the Police and the MACBA's security force. . . the dangerous area of the Raval is south of Sant Pere and around the Rambla del Raval.

Actually, I am accustomed to New York since I am from Long Island.

Maybe I should give Casa Camper a try since it will only be for 2 nights. I have been to Barcelona twicw already, once staying at the Citadines on Las Ramblas, and once staying at the AC Diplomatic in the Eixample area. But, during those visits I was traveling with my husband.

Has anyone else had experience with Casa Camper?

Thanks in advance.

Did you go yet? What did you decide? I, too, am a woman traveling to Barcelona alone - deciding between these two hotels, and my only hesitation is walking to Casa Camper at night.
Thanks.
