Hotel Italia in Rome

I have searched on this forum for this hotel and found some old postings, many of them were over and over by the same person. Any one recently been at this hotel? How is the location and quality of rooms etc?
Thank you.

It says there is a response to this posting of mine but it is blank - did I miss someone's feedback?

I tired to post earlier, but then deleted the post as it seemed to have already been posted. (I was having "issues" with my workstation.) Somehow Fodor's got "confused". :) I'll try and post again (and hope mutliple copies don't magically appear).

My wife and I stayed there for 4 nights last February (2003). The room
was okay, not 5-star or anything, but certainly clean and perfectly
adequate. We were in a room in the "annex" across the street. The
buildings are somewhat older and not so great, but the hotel floors
are quite nice. When we were there, there were doing work on the
reception/breakfast area, so breakfast was in a small, converted guest
room, but that was okay. The breakfast was good. The location is
so-so. In terms of safety, it's perfectly fine and we didn't feel
anxious about returning in the evening at all -- even when we first
arrived around 11:00 pm. There's a bus stops (including, I think, one
for bus 64(?) - one of the main tourist ones) very close by on Via
Nazionale. The metro is maybe 5 minutes at Piazza della
Repubblica. The train station is 5-10 minutes. We walked to most of
the tourist sites, though we took the Metro to the Colloseum (walked
back) and the Vatican (also walked back -- twice -- but it was a long
walk). We paid (IIRC) ~EUR 80/night with Rick Steves, low-season, and
cash discount.

We would stay there again.

Enjoy your trip,
Paul

Stayed at Hotel Italia the first of April and it is perfectly fine. Nothing fancy mind you but clean and comfortable. Very helpful staff. Breakfast buffet is pretty good, several selections, not just a croisant and juice. Bathroom seemed to have been remodeled. My room had a pretty good size shower by European standards. I found it to be very convenient to everything. Yes, I'd stay there again.

If on a strict budget, the hotel will be fine. The location is fair at best and the hotel is located near the train station. Your choice.
