Hi kr,
I have limited experience in Zurich - just one stopover, last year, but I could throw out a suggestion to you. We were looking for "reasonable rates" in Zurich, and had a heck of a time, until I jumped on the www.marriott.com website, and booked a double for about $110 American at the Zurich Marriott Downtown. It was very clean, comfortable, and well located (just across the river from the train station - only took us 10 minutes to the airport when we flew out). Just plugged in Zurich on March 20th for one night at the marriott website, and found a rate of 185.00 (CHF) per night (at www.xe.com that 185 is currently 142 US dollars). Yes, there are probably other more "traditional" or "local" hotels out there with a more "Suisse feel" than the Marriott, but we were well pleased, comfortably walked all over downtown Zurich from this hotel, and really enjoyed ourselves! Hope this helps! Have a great trip! |
Thanks I am finding the cheapest on the Marriot website at 275 chf which is 211 before taxes. I would like to stay there but have not had any luck getting a good rate. The 185 rate was for the Marriot Renaissance Zurich Hotel which says 8 miles from city center.

We stayed at Hotel Leoneck for 185sf for a double last Sept. It was a good-sized room, clean, in a kind of 'business' hotel but with a cow theme... If you want to eat breakfast there, spring for the full breakfast. They offered us a 'continental' which was a croissant and coffee, and nothing else (no jam, no butter). Just a quirky thing, otherwise the hotel was fine. You cross the bridge out of the train station, veer left up a hill and it's at the top. There's also a Comfort Hotel (Royal?maybe) across the street.

I also stayed at Hotel Leoneck last year. It was fine, and I got the best price from Zurich tourism website. It is on a steep hill up from the train station, and you can take a tram up (if you have lots of luggage). Walking down hill to the train station took me about 5 mins. The Zurich tourism website is listing 125CHF for single and 180 CHF for double (breakfast included) for Mar 20. http://www.zurichtourism.ch/ Leoneck's website is 140CHF for single and 170CHF for double (breakfast not included) for the same dates. The hotel across the street from Leoneck is called "Hotel Comfort Inn Royal" |
I stayed at the Walhalla and it was fine. The rooms are funky-cool rather than plush, but quite clean and the service was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, and the location is excellent for getting to the train station. I'd use them again without hesitation.
