Hotel in Venice
I’m looking for a recommendation on hotel accomodations for a studytrip to Venice. I tried searching the forum first, but I seem to have some unusual demands. Help would be greatly appreciated!
As I said, it's a studytrip, not a honeymoon. I’ll be going in-and-out of the hotel quite a few times each day, so the location of the hotel is important. I’m looking for a room with internet access and a keycard (I don’t want to ask for the key each time I go back). I’m also taking daytrips to Verona and Vicenza, so I don’t want to waste too much time getting to the Santa Lucia railwaystation. My main goal in Venice is the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Dorsoduro. Does it exist? A modern, no-nonsense hotel, 3-4 stars, preferrable located somewhere between Santa Lucia and the Accademia? |
Maybe you want an apartment instead...?

We spent 4 nights at the Hotel Abbazia. It's a converted monastery about 150 meters from train station. Quite a gem!! We arrived in Venice by train and left by train, and did a few day trips by train so the location was perfect. It's also in a great location for water transportation and never waited more than 5 mins. for a waterbus. The staff was fantastic!! There was internet connections, but I don't know the details. You could email this fantastic staff about it. We had a regular key instead of a key card, but again, the fantastic staff had it on the counter as we walked in. The reception desk was always manned. The reviews online were great and the Abbazia certainly lived up to them. One thing that might bother some people are the morning 7am church bells. It was a great wake up call for us, being early risers, and I don't think many places in Venice escape morning church bells anyway.

If you're going for more than a few days you'll want an apartment. You'll need a table (that serves as a desk) for your laptop and to spread out your papers. I can't imagine studying for any length of time in a hotel room.

An apartment, now why didn't I think of that?
Somehow I totally overlooked that option. It seems like the right plan for this trip. Thanks a lot. |
Search on this Forum for Franco's Venice thread. He has great recommendations, including an apartment he uses himself. He very patiently gives answers to specific questions about locations.

You know, I think a apartment makes sense, but I just thought I'd post one of my favorite hotels which is right near where you are studying...a block away.
I would assume they have internet. It's a really nice place, maybe there is a junior suite you can get. http://www.pensioneaccademia.it/ |
I was going to suggest just what PeaceOut did...do a search for Franco's Venice accommodations thread. You'll get lots of good ideas.
