Hotel in The Marais
Need a nice hotel in or near the Marais. Will be in Paris for 3 nights. Do not want an extravangent place, nor one trop luxe!
Is it better to stay elsewhere and then visit the Marais? Thanks. |
The metro and bus system in Paris is so good that it's not critical where you stay. Also, Paris is a very walkable city. The Marais is a very pleasant part of Paris and a bit different as it was less touched by Baron Haussmann's work.

Hotel Caron de Beaumarchais is very conveniently located in the Marais. Lots of bus lines along Rue St antoine/de Rivoli and St Paul Metro is a 2 minute walk away

Two I've stayed at that are within walking distance of the Marais, and close to good transport links for going elsewhere within Paris
http://www.bastille-de-launay-hotel-paris.com/ http://www.paris-hotel-americain.com/ It all depends what you plan on doing in Paris and what your expectations specifically of the Marais are. On recent visits, I'm finding it becoming a bit more blandified and less quirky than it used to be, but it's all matter of taste. |
We stayed at Jeanne d Arc and found it very adequate. http://hoteljeannedarc.com/
Recently renovated, the Jeanne d’Arc Hotel is located in the heart of the historical Paris, in the famous Marais district. Just off the charming St Catherine Square, you will discover a family friendly cosy quiet place. Its façade which boasts lanterns and large authentic windows hides a unique place to stay. Rooms are provided with all modern comfort i.e cable TV, phone, ensuite bathroom and toilet. Come and spend a relaxing and privileged moment in this discreet district of the romantic Paris. Small elevator and very small breakfast space but many restaurants close by. Not the friendliest staff but then it is Paris... |
Our first stay in Paris was at Hotel Sainte Croix de la Bretonnerie in the Marais on Rue Sainte Croix de la Bretonnerie. We really like it. You can look them up on the web. The location was great and the rooms were very nice. Our room was small but nicely decorated with a window over the street, which we prefer.

Otto...wanna try something a bit different? The Hotel Duo is ultra mod..on the fringe of The Marais..step out the door and you're on Rue du Temple, across the square from Hotel de Ville, two blocks from the Louvre. We stayed on Ile de St. Louis for years and switched to this on our most recent. Close to Pompidou and a walk along Rue de Rivoli...Rue de Rosier, the heart of the Marais, is a five minute walk. stu |
I stayed at the Caron de B. Perfect for me.
So many restaurants and shops and the Hotel de Ville Metro stop, a few minutes away and liked their breakfast. |
I have stayed at the Bretonnerie as well and recommend it. Here is the website:
