Hotel in the 17th Arrondissement
We will be staying in the 17th for a week. We enjoy walking and use the metro quite a bit. What will the 17th area be like? Any good restaurants?

What is the address where you are staying? The 17th is fairly large.

It certainly is quite large--I think any arrondisement is going to vary a lot through it, maybe not 1 and 4 so much, so it is really important to say where you are.
It's a little out-of-the-way, but I like the area between Square des Batignolles, which is a nice park and Brochant metro. There are a lot of cheaper hotels and many in packages between Villiers and Ternes avenues, however. If you are right near the Arc (where I've stayed) that is a pretty luxe neighborhood and nothing like the upper part. |
We stayed twice in 1999 by metro Villiers. We loved the immediate area - rue de Levis is a market street, and Parc Monceau was close by. We walked to Galeries Lafayette one morning (not close but very doable). We really prefer staying in the 'doubles', ie. 14th, 17th... We have eaten a couple of times at 'le Gourmand 27' which is further down past metro Rome. It is a small establishment with a couple sharing cooking and waitservice. The food was good (although not 'great') and reasonably priced, and they were very nice to us.

2 Places I enjoyed in the 17th, both of them moderately priced:
l'Ampere, 1 rue Ampere, near metro Wagram. l'Abadache, 89 rue Lemercier, in the Batignolles area (take a look across the street from Brochant metro, there's a beautiful alley with small houses and gardens, a Cite Florale) Nearby l'Ampere, at 75 ave. de Villiers, is le Petit Villiers, owned by the same people of Bistro du 7eme, which is generally highly recommended on this board and elsewhere (haven't tried any of them myself though). I walked by a few times, it seems to be quite popular with the locals. I think you'll enjoy the 17th - I like both Batignolles and the more upscale areas, around Villiers and Pereire. What great information. Thank you all so much.
We will be staying at Hotel Mercedes. I believe it is close to Parc Morceau. I am looking forward to staying in this area. We have been to Paris several times and stayed in the 8th and 7th each time. This will be an interesting change...a different Paris so to speak. Thanks 1jan1 |

I have not been so cannot report first hand, but in starting my research for a fall trip to Paris, L'Entredgeu seems like one I would like to try.
