hotel in Telc
Could anyone recommend a nice, well located hotel in Telc? We will be traveling there for two nights in May, and would like a nice, comfortable spot to stay. Thanks for any help.

Would you consider a B&B? The reason I ask is because we have stayed there in a B&B - it was actually a little apartment just metres from the water (a small lake in the middle of town).
Do you have a specific budget? How many people? Telc is such a gorgeous town! |
We would consider anything, and we don't have a particular budget. More important to us is that it be a really nice place, and well located. My husband and I are doing this trip, and we may never be back in that part of the world, so we'd like to do it well this time. Thanks very much for your response.

There's an excellent B&B/pension due east of Telc, but it's the other side of Brno, 2-1/2 hours drive from Telc, near Buchlovice, if that's somewhat on your itinerary. We've stayed there twice; it's very commodious and tasteful.
Here's a link: http://www.buchlovpark.cz/EN/index.html If interested, RSVP and I can tell you more. |
Thanks for the suggestion, but we were hoping to find something nice in Telc itself if possible -- that would work better for our trip.

I'm laughing as I remember our Telc experience six ot seven years ago. We'd booked a room on the square through the tourist bureau. When we arrived, no room. And, there was a festival going on and it was 6 or 7 at night. We ended up just stopping at a local house on the main road that had a zimmer frei sign. They had 2 rooms, with one shared bath, for rent to tourists. It was fine and very inexpensive. Plus, we could walk from there to the center of town. And, as I said we found this on a mid-summer Sat. night with a festival going on.

julies, it sounds as though you're the right kind of traveler -- flexible! I strive towards that goal, but find myself much happier away from home when I know where I'll be sleeping that night; hence the request for a hotel recommendation. I was hoping someone had had a fantastic experience in a hotel in Telc; I'm sure we'll find a good spot between now and May. Thanks for sharing your story -- btw, do you have any particular tips for traveling in the Czech Republic? We'll be on our own using guide books. Thanks in advance.

We are also planning a trip to the Czech Republic (and Slovakia and Hungary) in late May/early June.
We're also considering staying in Telc, though we may end up staying in nearby Slavonice (currently I'm leaning toward the latter). Here's one Telc hotel I included in my notes; I think it was originally recommended somewhere here on Fodors, but I also checked it out on tripadvisor. It's Hotel Telc, at Na Mustku 37, in the middle of Telc. It has very good reviews on Tripadvisor, and the price on the hotel website was 52E/night for a large double, which has a view on the square. Based on the research I've done for our trip, and the pictures I've looked at on hotel websites, "really nice" in terms of hotels may mean clean and decent, and the furniture may be new (or newish), but maybe not the highest quality. You might want to think about what "really nice" means to you. But keep in mind - we haven't visited there yet, so I have no personal knowledge! |
This is the place we stayed. It is technically an apartment so did not include breakfast but it did have a little kitchen so we fixed our own. I believe there are two apartments and one double room or something like that.
I am not sure why the prices on the website have not been updated since 2003(!) but when we were there last year the apartment was 45-50 euros. It is about a 10-15 minute walk around the lake to the town centre. It is located in a quiet residential location. When we return to Telc we will see if we can stay there again. If you are interested in other properties I researched a few more as well before choosing this one. http://www.privat-remes.wz.cz/Galerie_A.htm |
If you like historical sites, see hotel Templ in town Mikulov. It is in old jewish quarter. (www.templ.cz). Way from Telc to Mikulov is 117 km. See www.mapy.cz
