Hotel in St. Petersburg

We'll be in St. Petersburg next June or July for a week. I'd like to find a hotel within walking distance of the Hermitage for a max of ca. $200/day. We're looking for a place with English-speaking staff; clean and comfortable but not necessarily elegant. Thanks for your help

Hi Joe-

I wish I could offer you more help or a better suggestion, but unfortunately I think that staying in central Saint Petersburg during prime tourist season will cost more than that. There are some options at a greater distance- but $200 goes very quickly (as far as hotels are concerned) in both Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

You might want to consider either a slightly greater distance or maybe even an apartment rental- if you feel comfortable with something like that.

This company has a run down of prices and availablity-

This company's page lists B&Bs, too-

I will say that in my experience, the hotels are much more expensive- but you can save money in other ways. There are many affordable dining options, and most museum entrances are cheaper than Western counterparts.

You will find that rates for June are significantly higher than July because of the "White Nights". However, I would highly recommend going in June and paying the extra to experience the White Nights. Unbelievably beautiful! With a search you can find tons of magnificent photos on the web (nothing like being there, though).

It's right around the corner from the Hermitage and situated on a lovely street and canal. If you decide to book here, note that the canal boat tours go by with loud speaker commentary (but not very early or very late at night), so you might want to request a room on the back of the hotel overlooking the garden. The canal side views are terrific, though.

The restaurant within is excellent.

Hi Joe,
I haven't been around for a while. Are you still planning your StP vacation?

I wanted to second the suggestion for the Pushka Inn. We stayed there twice. It couldn't be more convenient - less than 5 minutes walk to the Hermitage, 10 to St. Isaacs, Nevsky, Spilt Blood, etc.

Staff speak English and are very helpful. Breakfast was included in their first floor restaurant. Restaurant servers also speak some English.

We aren't "high end diners", so we chose to eat at the restaurant most evenings - good food, relatively inexpensive and it became our 'home' for the week.

The hotel has high speed internet for a (I forgot how much) nominal charge.

How's the planning going?

A couple of nice and comfortable B&Bs within 5 min. walk from the Hermitage, a twin/double room below $150 per night - Nevsky, 11 and Nevsky Inn.
