The Continental (maybe the Grand Continental) is a great hotel right in the old city. It is fairly expensive, but definitely worth it if you can afford it.

We just returned from there and stayed at Hotel Grand Continental. It was a great place and in a great location. WE had a wonderful time. We had a package type deal so not sure exactly what we paid but it was luxurious.

I highly recommend the Palazzo Ravisaa if you want to be in the city walls. We stayed there in April; also stayed outside the walls at the Borgo Grondaie, also highly recommended.

I noticed a post with a link to Albergo Bernini. Looking at the web site it appears fantastic. It's not. We checked out after our first night. Know that they do not take credit cards and lock up the place at midnight. Our room furnishings were basic at best and the private bath had a sewer-like odor. The shower had a curtain but no ledge on the floor so it was difficult to avoid a flood. At 82 E per night plus 7 more for breakfast it was no bargain. We were able to find a room at the Hotel Chiusarelli that included an excellent breakfast and the total price was the same. Our room there was quite nice with a new bath and private balcony overlooking the football stadium. If there was a game, it would have been noisy. The front rooms would also be noisy since it is on a busy street. The public space is elegant. Since our return I noticed that the Chiusarelli has mixed reviews on TripAdvisor and the prices seemed to be more than we paid. Several complained about unfriendly desk staff but our experience was completely opposite. It was a good stay. Their restaurant is also excellent.
