Hotel in Siena

My husband and I are traveling to Florence on Christmas Day and would like to spend a day or so in the countryside near Siena.m I found the Locanda dell'Amorosa in Sinalunga near Siena and am wondering if anyone knows anything about this place. We'd also like to visit a vineyard, but are not sure if they will be open during the winter months.

I'm staying with my wife at the Locanda Dell'Amorosa at Xmas time too.
I have never stayed there but so many great reviews about this place can't be wrong...
It's one of the loveliest places I've found after a thorough tow months research of tuscan accomodations.
Concerning vineyards I have the same doubt as you... I'll tell you something about it as soon as I get some information...
By the way, New Year's Eve I'm staying in Florence.

Oh, glad to hear you've heard great reviews. I found most on the internet, and I agree that it is one of the nicest places I've found in my search. Are you renting a car? We fly into Florence and I wanted to look into taking a train to Sinalunga rather than rent a car. How long will you be there? Let me know if you hear of anything else!

We will be in Rome from 26th to 29th december. Then we will rent a car and drive to Sinalunga, where we'll stay 2 days. Finally, we'll spend New Year's Eve in Florence.
We prefer to rent a car rather than to take trains because this will give us more liberty to visit the sorrounding towns...

We stayed at Il Poggiliaro (sp) and it was very nice...old olive oil plantation, great food just north of Siena on a hillside with San Giagnmano in the distance

Well, to be honest this is my top four of accomodations in Tuscany:
1º At Sinalunga (east tuscany, near Umbria, Arezzo, Siena and Cortona)
Locanda Dell'Amorosa http://www.amorosa.it
One of the most romantic tuscan sceneries...
2º Citta De Castello (Umbria)
Palazzo Terranova
http://www.palazzoterranova.com/
3º Chiusdino
Borgo Santo Pietro
http://www.borgosantopietro.com/en/
And finally, a bonus one (if you can afford it)
4º Florence
Villa San Michele

I would have stayed at Borgo Santo Pietro if it weren't closed on the dates I'm travelling... Maybe next time...

By the way, this is where I'll be staying in Florence for New Year's Eve:

It's a 300 sq feet loft.

The Locanda is superb but is not very close to Siena--check the map.

Xixurros Oct 13th, 2008 10:09 PM

Bob, Siena zone fits you? It's about 30 minutes or so by car... It's as close as Arezzo or Cortona is too... Anyway, I've re-checked the map and I still think the same...
I think the Locanda is a great base camp to explore not just Tuscany but even Umbria.

Agreed !
But the title says " Hotel in Siena".

Bob, did you take even 5 seconds to read the post? A post isn't just its title... I've checked the map and still think the same... Have you changed your mind after reading?

My wife and I stayed at Locanda Amorosa a few years ago. It's simply stunning. The restaurant is exceptional and the property is darned near perfect. It's a little bit off the beaten path, but still within easy driving distance for good day trips to Montalcino and Montepulciano, etc. I cannot recommend it enough.
