hotel in Sevilla
Would anyone like to recommend a nice small hotel in Sevilla, Spain??
|
My wife and I stayed about five years ago in the Dona Maria in Sevilla. Our room overlooked the square in front of the Giralda and was nice, though not luxurious. The big selling point for the hotel, however, is the roof top swimming pool and deck which looks up to the looming tower of the Giralda above. We were there over memorial day weekend and the roof was a wonderful and enchanting place to end our afternoons and evenings with the lighted Giralda and rooftops of Sevilla in view. If you go there, make sure you get a room on the street so you can open your large windows to the plaza below.

We have not stayed there yet, but have booked a room at the Casa No. 7 (www.casnumero7.com)in Seville, on the back of a number of rave reviews that I have read about it. It was a private villa, and now rents its 4 bedrooms out nightly. We also considered the Hotel Alfonso XIII, which also looks wonderful, but decided in favour of a smaller, more intimate hotel.

I can recommend Los Seises. It is ideally situated by the Giralda. The rooms were nice and the staff was helpful. It has a wonderful rooftop swimming pool with terrific views of the city and the Giralda.

We enjoyed the Patio de la Cartuja in the Macarena district, about a 20 min. walk from the center. It's a charming renovated block of houses, large comfortable rooms, good breakfast, and best of all a secure garage in the basement. You can see it at www.estancias.com, although the web site seems flukey recently.

Just back from Sevilla. We stayed at the Dona Maria. The people at the desk were not the warmest and one guy kept trying to sell us on a certain flamenco show where I am sure they got a kickback. Otherwise is was clean and pleasant and the best thing was the location, location, location! We could walk everywhere, which was wonderful. It is very convenient to be able to stop back for the rest room, grab a sweater or to drop off purchases etc... It was so central. As it was february, the pool was closed, although we did check out the lovely Giralda view.

Although not intimate, the Alfonso is an unbelievable place. Rooms were luxurious and had a great dinner in the open air courtyard. Service was great - front desk provided tickets to a Flamenco show and directed us to the best paella we had in Spain. I'm sure they all get kickbacks from the shows they sell, but we asked about tickets and were not pressured at all. If you don't stay there, at least go for dinner as it's a beautiful old hotel.

Let me repeat what I suggested to an earlier request:
Message: Sue,
My suggestion would be to go to the following website:
http://www.parador.es/cgi-bin/en
This is a wonderful website dealing with the best
accomodations in Spain. I believe this is a country
sponsored website.
Click in to any of their locations in Spain and be truly
amazed at their hotels. Many are old castles and the
prices and locations are great.
