We just got back from Germany and loved Rothenburg. Besides being an enchanting town, we loved the place we stayed...Hotel Garni Hornburg. It's immediately outside the wall, with a parking lot right across the street from it. Took only a few minutes to get to the center of the town. Our room was quite large, decorated beautifully, and the proprieters were so nice and very helpful. Check out their website: [email protected] We also enjoyed the nightwatchman's tour as well as checking out the Glockenspiel at 8:00pm (not as terrific as Munich, but nice, still!). Check out the Kathi Wolfhart outlet store across from St. Jacob's church for some good deals. There is not a sign above the store that identifies it as an outlet, but it is. Good luck.

I can report good experience with Hotel Glocke - - inside the walls and a pvt INDOOR car park (garage) - - see www.ringhotels.de for more details.

Best wishes,

Rex

One more vote for the Eisenhut and giving the doorman the keys! We loved being in the town and would have been disappointed outside the walls. Great Christmas shop down the street from the hotel.

I agree with Carol's post. We also loved the Hotel Garni Hornburg. We took Rick Steves' advice and shopped at the Friese shop and mailed everything home. Anneliese loves to tell the story of how she met Rick. The night watchman's tour is a lot of fun and I also liked the criminal museum. Hopefully you will be able to stay two nights.

so far the most friendlier replies were from hotel garni hornburg and hotel gerberhaus. and they almost charge the same rate. only different is one is located outside and the other one inside the wall.
it also seems to me that many people are quite familiar with hotels in rothenberg but very few recommendation on hotels in nurnberg.
but we are really thankful to all of you who gave us so much useful informations and recommendations.

cheers,

mast

The Hotel Garni Hornburg (actually a B&B) is a former villa of a wealthy merchant and has large rooms. The surrounding gardens are very pretty. There is a big parking lot across the street and it is a very short walk into town. Martin and Gabrielle are great hosts and they have two very sweet big dogs.It is the only place we have stayed in Rothenburg but I can't imagine a nicer one. Let us know what you decide.

Hi Mast!

The Burg Hotel is a great place to stay. It is along the wall, quiet and the rooms are big but a little pricey. They are worth the cost though, beautiful scenery outside your windows. We stayed in the Tower Room. It cost about $130 US. The nice young lady who owns the hotel is very particular about quality, you won't be disapointed. Great little breakfast on the wall too. Be sure to take the night watchman's tour in the evening. Also, you have gotta go to the Wolfarhts Christmas Store. Two floors of nothing but ornaments etc. We really enjoyed our two days in Rothenburg, have fun!

P.S. You can park your car at the hotel and walk anywhere you need to go.
