Hotel in Rome with/or close to gym

Hi

Does anyone know a reasonably priced (up to $150) hotel in Rome that either has or is close to a fitness center?

Thanks!

It is too hot in Rome right now to work out. All that walking will be more than enough!

Hi KristyS - I exercise twice a day here at home. I usually can usually find a YMCA at any U.S. city that I can use as a guest. I've heard that there is a YMCA near Termini station. You may want to go to the international YMCA site. Otherwise, I would email a few hotels and inquire of their accommodations and ask them where the closest gym is to their location. This should give you an idea of what you're up against in finding a place to workout.

As for myself, I've booked a room on the top floor of a hotel that doesn't have an elevator :-! I've timed my vacation to hit my 12 week workout rotation, so it will by down week.

I'll email my hotel and ask about gyms. I'll post their answer here for you.

Thank you MizzEve, I really appreciate all your help! YMCA sounds like a great idea and I look forward to hearing from you again.

Calamari- Unfortunately there is no rest for the hot and weary.I work out in Rancho Mirage, CA in the 112 degree weather all summer long! Inside of course.

Thanks

You want a workout without staring at an Italian TV station which you don't understand anyway? Simply RUN from the bottom to the top of the Via Veneto. Of course, since you are used to working out in an air conditioned space then you might consider doing any outside workouts early in the morning to avoid the heat which you obviously aren't accustomed to and the crowds on the sidewalks.

Fellini B&B (www.fellinibnb.com) doesn't have a fitness center but there is one within 2 blocks, at Piazza Barberini. I don't remember the name of the gym but it was nice & clean. I think the cost was $10/day for non-members. The staff doesn't speak English but they are friendly and you would be amazed what you can communicate with hand signals!

The gym at Termini isn't a YMCA. It's called Fitness First Italia and is a brand new facility.

Bud - I didn't say that there was a gym near Termini, I said that I thought there was a YMCA located there. Some Ys do not have workout facilities. Thanks for the gym info.

My hotel, the San Carlo said that there is a "Sporting center of Villa Borghese." When will you be in Rome?

KristyS Aug 2nd, 2003 03:07 PM

Thanks MizzEve. I will be in Rome September 13th, then to the Amalfi Coast for a week and back to Rome for 2 days. I wonder if that is located around the actual Villa Borghese?

I don't know Rome specifically, but have taken aerobics classes in several locations & languages (!) Just look in the phone book and give a call to someplace near where you are staying. It's a wonderful way to get more into local everyday culture. Also keep your eyes open when you're walking around during the day - several times I spotted an interesting place & simply went in and asked about price & being able to drop in for class or a workout.

KristyS!!!!!!!!

I am arriving in Rome on Sept 13 too! Are you flying Continental?

My other Rome contact also that there is a gym "inside Villa Borghese." He then pointed out that I would be doing a lot of physical exercising just seeing the sights.
