Seaurchin, no it was the Hotel Selene near the Termini Station. As I said , it was decent enough type of place, but, I had a feeling the mistake was intentional, and I that was confirmed when I met the other lady who had stayed there and the same "mistake" ( oh the other clerk must have "forgotten" to mark it paid I was told) happen to her at the same time..

This post caught my eye because my niece and her husband have reserved the Navona First in October for a few nights. It is in a great location between Piazza Navona and Camp di Fiori, and gets very good reviews on tripadvisor. There are only 5 rooms so I don't think that dwebb will get stuck with a bad room. I think that what ira and anniemackie advised is the best course of action. I'd want to know that I had a confirmed rate before checking in.

Just an FYI, but singles in Europe are tiny. We traveled with our son and in the same hotels where my husband and I had spacious rooms, he had singles in England, Italy, France and Germany that were extremely small. He did not mind, but some might.
It is not like the US where they do not differentiate and still have the same type of accommodations with full-sized beds. All the rooms he stayed in (with one possible exception) had single beds. |
If the hotel quoted incorrectly, and then didn't advise you of their mistake until you were within the cancellation period, then it's on them to rectify the situation. They should either honor the original rate, give you a bigger room at the higher rate, or refund your deposit (if they took one). When I was in Italy, they only used my card as a guarantee and didn't charge it.
But when dealing with them it's always best to be the nicest, smilingest person you can possibly be if you're going to try to fix it when you arrive. If you try to get it corrected prior to arrival - be persistent and nice and eventually you will wear them out! |
Hi D,
I think that you are being too paranoid about the hotel treating you badly if you complain about the change in rate. They are already treating you badly. If you think that they are going to suddenly get an attack of conscience while you are standing in the lobby with no where else to go, you are kidding yourself. The rate will be 95E, and if you walk out you will be billed 95E, with no recourse. Their website does say that Sept is high season and the rate is 95E. www.venere.com lists the Flora B&B in the Novana area at 70E. Also check www.tripadvisor.com. A quick review of what's available shows that 95E is about average for Sept in Rome. Hope this helps. ((I)) |
