Hotel in Paris near Chatelet des Halles RER station?

We will be spending two nights in Paris next January, and will be arriving by RER B and leaving by RER A. Therefore, it would be perfect if we could find a hotel within a close distance of the RER station. Any suggestions?

Hi Nicol,

What's your budget?

Keep in mind that Paris has an excellent transportation system. I don't think that you need to limit yourself to th area around the RER station.

Ira,

I don't want to spend over 200 euro a night for a triple room (or double plus extra bed) for two adults and a six year old child. The reason for staying near the RER station is that we will be pulling a couple of large suitcases on wheels (all our snow clothes from our ski holiday!) and from experience it is a nightmare trying to negotiate the metro with luggage plus small child in tow.

The Novotel - Paris Les halles hotel is almost on top of the RER station. The location of this place is ideal, easy walks to Notre Dame, Beaubourg, the Marais, the rue Montorgueil, etc. The hotel itself is nondescript: typical small, clean rooms.

Try the Hotel Saint Merry, I know this hotel have triple room and have about these prices...It is really not far from the RER station so no problem for your luggages...Look at their website: www.hotel-saintmerry.com!Bye

HI
The Chatelet station is one of the worst imo if you are lugging heavy bags to and from the airport.
It is very crowded, the stairways are long and many (and wheels don't help on stairs), and so are the seemingly endless corridors.

There are plenty of places, conveniently located where you can spend less than 200 euro per night, and nicer areas imo than around Chatelet-Les Halles.

I meant to include an alternative that you might consider.
Grand hotel des Balcons, in the 6th. A few blocks from the Luxembourg RER station, straight ride from CDG.
Good reviews here and at tripadvisor.com (you can search it by name), and well under your max price.

Novotel Les Halles is nearby, and it has a double bed + a sofa bed.

The previous poster apparently does not understand that there's a difference between the metro station (Chatelet) and the RER station (Chatelet Les Halles). The RER station has escalators and is relatively easy to navigate with luggage. The metro station has stairs, some incredibly long walks, and is not easy to navigate. The metro and RER stations are connected, and connecting between the two involves the problems with the metro station. Getting between the RER station and street is not difficult with baggage, as long as you avoid the metro entrances/exits. (On the street, look for the entrances marked RER and not M.)

rizzuto, are you saying Novotel Les Halles is not within walking distance of the RER station? I would think it is by memory.

I agree the Chatelet metro includes some very long walks.

I think rizzuto might have been responding to my comment, and I appreciate his clarification--I did jumble together the Chatelet metro station (a nightmare imo) with the RER station, so I'm glad for his correction on that.

The area is still not one I would choose, esp. when there are convenient and budget-minded alternatives.

I think this can make sense for transportation convenience since they will only be there a couple nights. The Novotel is on pl M. de Navarre which isn't where the RER stop is, it's about a block away (I thought, Rizzuto seems to know this hotel, so perhaps there is something I'm not sure of--they are connected underground, I think). It's where the Chatelet metro stop is, although the RER stop is certainly not far. Their own web site shows it as next to the Chatelet metro stop, also. That's a 4* hotel, but I think their rates are probably right around 200 euro, as it's not a deluxe one.

I don't think there are a lot of great hotels within a block or so of Les Halles RER stop. Other than the Novotel, the closest are probably the Atel Prince Hotel Forum at 83 rue Rambuteau (www.cosy-hotels.com, but not sure they have triples) and the Hotel Residence les Halles at 4, rue des Halles. YOu can see it on www.123europe-parishotels.com It is a residence hotel so has kitchenettes and triples are around 140 euro (it's called Hotel dees Halles - Louvre on that web site).

WillTravel, I am saying that the Novotel is very close indeed to the RER station, and that it is relatively easy to get from the RER train to the Novotel, even with luggage. (I believe that I was the poster who originally suggested this hotel.)

Another possibility in this neighborhood would be the Citadines apartment-hotel, also easily accessible from the RER. The Citadines formula typically provides much more space than a standard hotel room, and it includes kitchen facilities. You do not, however, get some of the features that you'd find in traditional hotels (room service or concierge, and maid service would not be daily).

Gee, thanks for so much info. I am starting to 'build a picture'up in my mind of the whole scenario. You folks are the best! I am now thinking that I will definately avoid the CHatelet metro stations, and come to the surface at the RER stop. My next question is: I notice a couple of hotels a few blocks away often recommended on this site: the Champagne and the Brittanique. What is traffic like for walking overground with the wheelies? Thanks!
