Hotel in Paris?
 

I will be traveling to Paris with my 8 year old daughter for five days in December. I am looking for a safe, quiet hotel that would be near a metro stop and would love to hear your suggestions. Thanks!

Budget?

Hotel Des grandes Ecoles is very nice, very quiet,is located on a lovely garden and is enclosed with tall wall.At night is so quiet that you forget that you are in a big city.
We stayed there few years ago.

We need to know your budget and what sort of place you want.

Well, of course you need to know my budget - is that I dead giveaway that I am new to this?! I am seeking something on the lower end which I know is very difficult for Paris. I have begun looking at apartments also as this would allow us to make some meals. Any experiences anyone has with this would also be appreciated.

You still need to be more specific with price - but here are two more in the €125 - 135 a night range:

Hotel St Jacques which is close to Luxembourg Gardens - a good place to take your little one:

I stayed at the Hotel de Notre Dame on rue Maitre Albert with my daughter about five years ago and enjoyed the neighborhood and proximity to Notre Dame. There is a metro stop around the corner on Blvd. St. Germain.

I don't know what you mean by "lower end" because there is a wide range of prices in Paris. You could go to Trip Advisor and get an idea of prices and locations.

I frequent the Hôtel de France in the 7ème, 102 Boul. de la Tour Maubourg - about 80 euro for a double. Métro Ecole Militaire is 2.5 blocks away.

Hotel de Notre Dame is one I've looked at a few times, walking in area. Location wise, very nice. If reviews are good, I'd put that on my list.

But to help, you will need to give us a range (on upper side).

I've also stayed at the Timhotel Jardin des Plantes. Right beside Jardin des Plantes, quieter neighbourhood, one long block to Seine. Chain hotel...and basic.

http://locationparis9.canalblog.com/ is an nice apt. Rents for 280 to 350 per week, depending on season. You have to buy insurance -12-15 euros and a cleaning fee of 40E. If you are going outside of Christmas, then you are looking at 325-350 for the week. Cheaper than a hotel by a long shot. Metro is a 10 minute walk, bus is about 5 minutes.

it doesn't state what arr. it's in. Is it the 9th?

also for security reasons, I dont know that I'd want to stay on a ground floor apt with a child.

We had so many wonderful informative threads on these subjects so I bookmarked as many as I could before the "New Fodors" came into being,

My vote goes to Hotel Duquesne Eiffel. It's in the 7th arr. A beautiful safe area of Paris, minutes from the Ecoles Militare /Invalides metro stations and right beside the Eiffel Tower. The hotel is lovely. v friendly and highly rated on trip advisor. We were very lucky and had the corner room on the top floor floor with the best view of the tower - it must be one of the best views in the city for the hourly evening light show!

Sorry forgot to say, theres loads of great deals to be found in Paris if you look on hotel booking sites - we got a great deal through fastbooking.com.

The problem with staying in the 7th is that apart from a handful of museum sights and the tower, it is necessary to use public transportation, bus or metro, to get the most interesting areas of Paris. I recommend you look for an apartment near the Luxembourg gardens.

they are loads of safe area and hotels in Rome but if your budget is around 100 euros I recki¡on you should also have a look on rentals apartment, when I travel with my kids I think it is better, you have your own kitchen to made them their dinner or breakfast, restaurants is tirying for children, anyway if you want here is the link where I am staying when I go to Paris, hope that will help ... http://www.lodjee.com/nicolas-1-bedr...aris-apartment

Another thanks for the apartment links and suggestion for an apartment. I have found several in my price range with wonderful amenities including kitchens, tv and even a computer. One is hosted by a lovely woman who telephoned which was very nice to have a chance to ask her questions. I'm very excited about our trip and very appreciative of all the comments that helped so much.

One last (maybe!) question. I am deciding whether to stay in 6th or 18th? Any suggestions. I realize that they are very different and the 6th would allow a little more walking to and from major sites but I am somehow also drawn to the 18th! Thanks.
