Hotel Castex, on the small rue Castex, right bank, near Place des Vosges. We stayed there last summer and liked it. If you're interested and don't have the address in a guidebook, let me know by return e-mail and I'll dig it out for you -- shouldn't be any trouble.

Michael, we always stay at Hotel Des Grand Balcons, next to the Luxembourg Gardens and the Odeon. It is listen in Fodors hotels of character and Charm in Paris and has a lovely Art Deco lobby and breakfast room, for under $100.00 per night for two people. The also do an amazing breakfast and have a very helpful staff. I have recommended this hotel to several people and all have returned delighted. If you are interested email me and I can forward the address and phone number. Bon Voyage!

Hotel du Champs de Mars. Located in the 7th, near rue Cler - a pedestrian street lined with shops. I am not sure there is a basic tourist area as many of the sites are spread out throughout the city, but all easily accessible thru the Metro.
