Hotel Henri IV 25 place Dauphine, it is in the 1st arrondisement on the Ile de la Cite. You could throw a dart at a map and you would be dead center. It is cheap, not fancy but very well situated. Rooms need updating. They do not take credit cards, cash only.
Another option look at Hotel des Arenes on rue Monge (I forgot specific address). It is in the 5th district. I have stayed there. I had large double bed, nice sized bathroom, cable tv (CNN International so I could catch up on news if I wanted to). Good luck I wish I was going back soon.

Hotel LeLoiret in the 1st or Grand hotel des Balcons in the 6th. both around $70 for a single so probably $90 for a double.

My favorite little budget place is Hotel du Lys, 23 rue Serpente; clean, charming, and great location, just 2 min. from St. Michel metro stop. It was 105 euro for double in May, and this includes a continental breakfast consisting of the freshest, most wonderful croissant(puts the expensive croissants at Deux Magots to shame!), baguette, juice, and choice of coffee, tea, or chocolate.

Sue
just checking--the Du Lys doesn't have an elevator?

No, it does not have an elevator, and that can be a drawback. The winding staircase is charming to look at, but not such fun to climb! I forgot to mention that! In May I was only 1 floor up, quite do-able, in a single, and my daughter and her husband were on the very top floor in a beautiful double--just fine for their ages!
