Hotel in Nice for July?

I am travelling in France this june/july. A friend is meeting me in Nice for 3 days and we are looking for a hotel, centrally located, with a sea view, probably in a price range of $200-250 Cdn. per night. Can anyone recommend one? We're considering the Hotel Mercure des Anglais on the Promenade des Anglais. Anyone stayed there? Caveat: I am pretty fussy when it comes to hotels!

Hi Marla,
I'm not quite certain as to how you define "pretty fussy", but am certainly happy to share my Nice hotel experience with you.

Several years ago I stayed at a hotel in Nice called the Hotel Flots D'azur. It's located at 101 Promenade des Anglais & without even asking, we had a room that faced the Bay of Angels, palm trees out front, a small balcony, I think. The room had 2 beds, was absolutely pristine & no problem with plumbing, or anything else. Included in our stay was the usual continental breakfast, which was served outside on a terrace with a fabulous view. Your question prompted me to check to see if it still existed, & indeed it does. They state their rates as between $29-$54 U.S. dollars per night. The staff, as I recall was most attentive, & the concierge very helpful indeed. As we had a triple occupancy room, & the exchange rate was less favorable in those days, I think each of the 3 of us paid $27 U.S. for the room.

I hope this helped & hope that you, too, can stay in a beautiful place on the Riviera, with a wonderful view.

Best wishes for a lovely trip,
Kathy

Marla, I recently returned from Nice and stayed in two different hotels..one at the beginning of my trip and returning 2 weeks later to another. I also am very fussy about hotels. My first hotel was the Primotel Suisse on Quai Raba Capeu. It was 680 francs and had the most perfect view of the Baie des Anges that you could ask for. The rooms were very nice, great bathroom..Our luggage was lost en route by the airline and the front desk was very helpful in making phone calls for us. Also, they let me leave a suitcase at the hotel that I felt I didn't need, and picked it up 2 weeks later. Would go back there with out a doubt. I loved the location of being so close to old Nice, the Cours Salaya, the port area and an easy walk to the bus station thru old Nice. My second hotel was the Hotel West-End. It is located on 31, promenade des Anglais. Cost was twice what I paid for the first hotel..$180. US. I changed rooms three times!! The first room was lovely to look at, but had a window view of the Hotel Negresgo. I had been told that the room faced the water. I complained and was given a room on the second floor..I had requested a room on the higher floors (lower floors tend to be noisy..picking up street noise and fumes) so they then, to get rid of me, I think, gave me a room on the top floor. This room was a corner room, two sided terrace..the cost was listed at $500 US. Nice that they gave us this room..but BADLY needed to be refurbished. Dirty worn carpeting..Very musty smelling. I would gaze from my terrace at my first hotel and wish I were there. I, myself did not care so much for the location. The lobby was beautiful, red velvet, crystal lighting..but just not me I guess. There was always a long wait with check in..or anytime you visited the reception desk. Sorry to "talk" so much...hope this helps..feel free to email me if you have any questions..Nancy

I suggest the Park hotel. It's location is absolutely excellent, right near the Ruhl casino.
Cost should be around $120-130 pernight. It's 4 stars and most rooms have a nice view of the sea.

URL - http://www.park-hotel-nice.com/

There are lots of fine hotels in Nice on the beach. Here's a URL of a site with some interesting descriptions of nice Nice hotels:
Last fall we went to Nice and stayed at the Hotel Gounod and LOVED it! The rooms were huge, the cost was cheap -- it shared the amenties of the 4-star sister hotel next to it.
I actually wrote a review about it on epinions if you want to read more info:
http://www.epinions.com/trvl-review-...39CF65EA-prod3
