Help! I will be visiting Nice On Sept 21.02 for seven nights. Has anyone stayed at the Albert 1er hotel? What other 3 star hotel would you recommend in Nice?

Stayed at the Gounod last fall, it was a very nice hotel. This year we are staying at the Windsor, only to get a room overlooking their garden. I have been told that Hotel Suisse is nice too and it is right on the water.

Gloria I have the same question.
Reserved it for 9 nights at the end of August. Would like to get some referrals.
Someone told me that on Rick Stevens forum it was thoroughly trashed as a dump. Haven't checked yet. It looks great on a picture, but that does not mean anything.

Would you be nice enough to give me the input on this hotel after you visit it.
Haven't made any reservations yet, have other ones in mind, like the Gounod, the Vendome and the Primotel Suisse.
Thanks Again!!

Hi Nouvelle HOtel looks and is like a 3 stars, but is only two. good choice , good location , we even find a free parking spot right in front of the Hotel. Lots of luck...

I stayed at the Primotel Suisse for 5 nights this past November. My room (single, actually probably a double) had a balcony with table and chairs overlooking the water. It was basically very close to the Old Town and not a long walk to the Place Massena. I also walked to the train and bus stations. Would certainly recommend it. Cost about 475 francs at the time.

Hi
I stayed at the Gounod last Sept it's OK but not as good as it looks in the picture. The really great thing about it is that you can use the sun terrace and swimming pool at the Hotel Splendid next door.
My son is trying to get me a room at the Suisse or Windsor for my next trip to Nice in June but is not having much luck so far, any other suggestions?
Thanks
Jo

To the forum in general,
Earlier this morning my friend Marcel, who goes to services with me on Saturday mornings, read L'Monde to us on his palm pilot. One of the editorials that he read from, translating as he went along, used the most eggregious language I have ever encountered in a newspaper. It was of course an editorial against the Jews and during the course of its tirade it suggested that the Jews perform both physiological impossiblities and incestuous acts. If such a tirade appeared in an editorial in an American newspaper the writer would face consequences, and I suspect that he will in France as well. My point is that there are some real religious issues at work in France.
Marcel, a former Parisian Jew, who has lived in America for over half of his life, spent the war years in hiding in the French countryside with his family. They were helped by French Christians. They were thrown out of their apartment in France when Vichy came in and to this day have never received any compensation. Remarking on the anti semitic incidents in France he said "There is no life in the World better than to be a Frenchman, and no place better to live than in Paris, but to be a French Jew is to face continual subtle discrimination."
There is clearly a problem in France in their attitudes towards their own Jewish citizens; worst of all is that many French refuse to admit that a problem exists. We have a racial problem here in America, but at least almost all of us admit that it IS a problem and try to work towards solving it.
Let's give the French a chance to clean up their own house; remember, when Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown, an army of 3,000 French regulars under Lafayette made it impossible for him to retreat to the mainland, and a French fleet, under Admiral De Grasse, prevented the British from escaping by sea.
