Hotel in Naples, Amalfi
 

Hi, actually I have a couple of questions. First, I need to find a nice well located hotel in Naples, ideally at about 150€ a night. A bunch of us are going down in early november.
Second, would the Amalfi coast be deserted that time of year?
Third, a nice hotel in Amalfi, ideally same budget as Naples, is that even possible or should I be looking at Sorrento?

A couple of years ago I stayed in a double room at the Parteno Bed & Breakfast in Naples, located on the Lungomare, which is the main street on the waterfront. This was not fancy, but it was a clean, very small establishment located on the second floor of a residential building. Actually, it was kinda cute - if you enjoy non-institutional hotels. The room was faily large by european standards. A bus stop is around the corner and waterfront restaurants are within walking distance. We paid 137 Euro in 2003. Their email address at the time was [email protected].

In Positano, we stayed at Hotel Villa Rosa, which we loved. We had a HUGE double room with an enormous terrace overlooking the sea. I still remember the beautiful tilework on the floors and breakfast on the terrace. We paid 130 Euro. Downside - no elevator and to arrive at the lobby you must walk up a very long flight of outside stairs. I believe the Villa Rosa is discussed in many fodor posts.

Are you spending a night in Capri? If so, I'd recommend Hotel La Minerva. We had a fabulous "superior" room with a terrace and sea view at the rate of 145 Euro. The room was totally white, spotlessly clean with an enormous bathroom. www.laminervacapri.com

No, but definitely off season and very iffy weather.

I am taking my wife as well, to Italy November 1st through 10th.

I love the Amalfi coast, but it will be quiet that time if year. If you are looking for more action stick near the cities.

As far as the cost, we are not going to stay but here is what I did research.

Hotel Luna Convento. I may be more than 150 but it looks every penny worth it. A true Amalfi coast experience.

Check out hotel Johanna park in sorrento. This is where I would have stayed on the same budget (E100 -E150). Looks nice.

Make sure to see Pompeii, even for an hour. It is worth it. The size of a few city blocks and perfectly preserved.

It may be cool and rainy that time of year. But it may be perfectly sunny and 65 degree F. You never know with Mama nature.

Any reason you're bunking in Naples. You can do a lot based in Sorrento - Pompeii, Naples, Capri, Positano, Amalfi etc. If there is a group of you and you are staying several nights in the off season you could well be able to negotiate a good deal for your acommodation (consider apartments as well).

Just a suggestion...

eternalburg--In late June, 2005, we stayed in a lovely hotel in Naples called the Chiaja Hotel de Charme on via Chiaia 216. For 3 of us, it was 175 euro per night. The room was huge, the breakfast was quite good and the reception staff were all extremely helpful. I would guess that in November, the rate will be lower, hopefully in your range.

We walked everywhere from the hotel, which is on a pedestrian only street. Plus, it is within a 3 minute walk to Sfogliatelle Mary's at the mall. Mmmmmm, I savor the memory of the taste those delectable morsels.

So nice to see someone going to Naples. Last time we were there the euros were almost one-third cheaper so we went deluxe . . . but I walked by a hotel on the waterfront called the Miramare which looked very inviting. I think it was about your price range.

If your main interest in Naples is the Archaeological Museum you might look at Hotel Constantinopoli as it is only a few blocks away, and a fairly short taxi ride to the train station for side trip to Pompeii and also a few blocks from Spaccanapoli area. We also preferred Positano over Amalfi and Sorrento.

Danilo the reason I am not looking into a house is because essentially we're only there for 2 nights and will be out most of the time so won't really enjoy the house. But thanks for the suggestion.

World in a bag, reason I thought we'd overnight in Naples is, well here's the plan...

Take an early morning train from Rome to Napoli, catch the Circumvesuviana to Pompeii, leave bags at station (which I believe through this forum is doable) and then after seeing the ruins and lunch and the coral shops there would take train back to Napoli. Have a relaxing dinner and stay the night. Next day catch hydrofoil to Capri and from there to Amalfi. Spend second night in Amalfi. Day 3 return to Rome.

But you are right instead of Napoli we could stay the night in Sorrento too.

I have actually done the Amalfi Coast a couple of years ago which is why am stuck with all the planning! Due to a hair raising drive and a very near miss I am not too keen to drive down. I remember reaching Amalfi shortly before dark and feeling so disappointed that we didnt get there earlier, it seemed like a nice place. But we had to drive back as we were staying in Sorrento. Which is probably why this time I want to spend more time there!

I liked Naples, but I think that for what you want to do you would be better off training to Naples and on to Pompeii. Leave the luggage at Pompei Scavi for your visit.

Pick up luggage and take train to Sorrento for *2* nights.

Daytrip to Capri.

Daytrip to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello by ferry or SiTA bus.

Return to Rome.

Why schlep your luggage to Capri and Amalfi?
