Hotel in Munich for Oktoberfest?
Hi, I'm looking for a hotel for 2 nights in Munich during Oktoberfest (Sept 19 - 21). I'm not picky about the place, but ideally would like somewhere I can walk to both the fairgrounds and other sites in Munich. Nothing fancy, will take either a shared or private bath. A nice hostel would be great.
I know a lot of the hotels and hostels are already booked - I had a reservation at one of them and they just let me know today (a month after booking) that they no longer have a room for me! So, unfortunately I'm back to square one. Any suggestions out there?
Many thanks!

We just recently returned from Austria/Germany, spending our last evening in Munich. We found the Hotel Eder to be very comfortable and affordable. For a double room it was 65 Euro. 3 blocks from the main train station but in a good neighborhood. Good luck.

I assume your first "reservation" was not guaranteed on a credit card..or was it?
I would look at every booking engine I could find to include utell.com and hotelbook.com and you can always try www.srs-worldhotels.com
The key is to book whatever you can get ASAP.

jules- No!! It is not OK for them to cancel your reservation. I would write a letter of complaint to the hotel and let them know that you are sending a copy to the Munich Tourist Board. Keep all your paper trail and contact your credit card provider. Though it might be difficult to find lodging now in central Munich you might want to consider a location such as Tutzing- 25 minutes by train, but a quiet escape from the crowds and in a pleasant setting on the Starnberger See. We usually stay outside of Munich during Oktoberfest. I hope things work out for you and you enjoy Munich and Oktoberfest.

We recently stayed at the Hotel St. Paul which is across the street from St. Paul's Church & right at one of the Theresienwiese subway station exits.
The Octoberfest is held in the park nearby (Theresienwiese - a five minute walk).
It is a 10 minute walk to the main train station and about a 25 minute walk to Marienplatz, Hofbrauhaus, etc.
In early June rate was 64 euros for a double room with bath.
