Hotel in Munich
 

Looking for an overnight hotel in Munich. Arrive by plane at 1:30 p.m. on a Monday and leaving for Italy by train early the next morning. Looking for a place relatively close to the train station, but able to get out and enjoy Octoberfest for the evening.

Try the InterCity hotel right near the Hauptbahnhof (main train station). The LeMeridien is awesome, too. Also, if you're looking for something less costly, the Hotel Helvetia recently was revamped so you might look into that. It's also very close to the station.

If during Oktoberfest, grab what's available at this point!

I just want to echo elberko. Hotel rooms -- at least in the central city -- during Octoberfest are now extremely tight and very expensive. You should book right away.

I liked the Marriott Courtyard. Close to the train station and situated between the Alstadt and the Oktoberfest grounds.

If you have trouble finding something, I'd find expand the search to hotels on the S1 or S8 S-Bahn line. Both of those lines go from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof.

Near the Hauptbahnhof, I've stayed at the Kings Hotel First Class on Dachauerstrasse - it was quite nice and the rate was around 90-100 euro/night a few years back.

Across the street from the Le Meridien mentioned above, the Sofitel is almost adjacent to the main station.
I think it may arguably Munich's most interesting hotel. It features very modern interior behind a very traditional facade and has a very cool pool, fitness center and spa facilities in the basement. It's decorated in rather dark colours, but the scheme works very well in my opinion.
Access to Theresienwiese, where the Octoberfest takes place, is easy, too, in fact you can walk there.
