Hotel in Milan

Where is a nice, fairly priced hotel to stay in Milan for first night trip to Italy.

What is your idea of "fairly priced"? What is your idea of "nice"? Nothing fancy, just clean and quiet, or lots of amenities?

Milan has some spectacular hotels. Considering how deluxe they are, I'd say they are very fairly priced at about 350 to 450 euro per night. Is that what you're looking for? On the other hand there are some real dumps that go for 90 euro that I think are way overpriced. All in all, I have found Milan's hotels to be more fairly priced than Rome's.

You might do better to tell us a price you want to pay than to use a generality like "fairly priced".

Look into Hotel Spadari al Duomo. It's moderately priced and they offer weekend discounts.

Thank you all for your help. Fairly priced I thought was 100 euro, but I am crazy (This was my first time on the forum, so now Iunderstand how it works, i know know I am looking at 200 euro, if possible. Any suggestions? Spadari Al Duomo is booked.

Hi

My wife and I went to Miland and Venice in June 2003. In Milan we stayed at Hotel Marconi located at Via F. Filzi number 3 (near Repubblica Metro station). It was an OK hotel with a decent price and we got to the Duomo within minutes when we used the metro. I have posted a trip report (including a "review" of the hotel) and lots of pictures on my personal homepage www.gardkarlsen.com. Maybe you can find some useful information there :-)

In September we stayed at the Hotel Star...wwwhotelstar.it price 150-160E
It was a great location if you want to see the Duomo, it was on a very small side street, double pained windows and with the shutters down, there was very little noise, it had air conditioning that worked well,it was spotlessly clean, a little fridge in the room, basic breakfast with lots of good coffee in the morning. The negatives, which didn't seem to bother us because the price was right AND it was quiet for Milan were...it looks to have been decorated in the 70s, except for the modern marble bathrooms which were just redone. At first glance, in person as well as on the net, it looks a little funky, it is not what I usually like, but it worked out great, the price was right for Milan, and I would certainly stay there again at the begining or end of a trip.

Check out Hotel Lloyd. Short walking distance of the Duomo & Galleria. Nice, clean, older Marriott style rooms. Ours had a HUGE bathroom. Good breakfast buffet that was included in our rate. Be sure to ask for SPECIALS...that's what we got.

I went round and round on this, Milan is expensive. We stayed the last night of our honeymoon there.
For a clean, affordable, nice hotel if you don't mind climbing some stairs stay at the Hotel Speronari. Right on Via Speronari by the Duomo (2 stops on the metro from the main train station). Great bakery next door. I couldn't find their email back in June but made and confirmed reservations via fax for a double room, private bath for 88 euros. Yes, under 100. I think you get 5% off with cash.
rick steves book has the numbers or try a google search. Enjoy! In Milan we walked around, toured the cathedral, took the elevator to the roof, it was worth an afternoon and night.
