Hotel in Lisbon this weekend?

Hello all, my husband and I are heading to Libon this weekend and trying to figure out where to stay. These are my thoughts, given that there appears to be plenty of availability, and I'm curious what folks think would be the best plan. (1) when we get off the plane, go to the tourist information booth, and see what good deals they are aware of for hotels. I've done this before in other European cities, i.e., Rome, and been offered deals at nice hotels for up to half off rack rates. I know of one person who did this in Lisbon and ended up with a room for 100 Euros at the Hotel Britania. (2) book a room at one of the Heritage properties with the last minute rates on offer - we could stay at Solar do Castelo for 125 euros/night; As Janelas Verdes at 120; Heritage Av. Liberdade at 130, HOtel Britania at 105, and Hotel Lisboa Plaza at 100. If you all think this option sounds like a good plan - which hotel would you recommend?? They all sound nice, but which is the best (combination of price/location/setting)? Finally, option (3) - get to town and head into the area and check out a few hotels around Rosso plaza and see what deals can be made. Options there - and I know these aren't nearly as nice as the Heritage properties, would be Hotel Metropole, Pensao Geres, or perhaps Residencial Florescente.

Phew! At any rate, your thoughts would be much appreciated. We're a couple in our late thirties. We'd like a nice place with character, charm and location. Seems like Baixa would be the best area, or perhaps Alfama, but perhaps you all think otherwise? Luxury not necessary - but if we can get it for a reasonable price, what the heck, you know?! Love to pay 100E or less, but if the place is outstanding, I think I can take a crow bar to the ol' wallet . . .!
Thanks for your thoughts!

i am unfamiliar with most hotels. i will be at convention at marriot so i am no help, except with good results from those websites.

http://www.pestana.com

You can often get the 5* Pestana Palace for under 200 including (a fantastic!!!) breakfast.

Give them a call.

You might try the Mondial: location is just off Rossio and within walking distance of the Baixa, Plaza do Comercio and many other sites. I don't have their URL or e-mail address but it should be in about the 100 Euro price range.

I've stayed at the Hotel Brittania in Lisboa a few years ago and we liked it a lot. Very homey and friendly. It's a neighborhood that is more lively during the day and quieter at night. It's a bit of a walk to the Baixa but not bad. If you are looking for a more lively area the Baixa would be it. I remember hearing that the Mondial was a cool place to stay but I would do a little research before arrival. If you can avoid renting a car I would. Driving in Lisboa was an experience I think that I shall never forget. I still can't believe that we ever found the hotel and are not still driving around trying to find it!!!!!!
Best of luck and have fun, Jane

Hi Betsy.
The only time we were in Lisbon, the apartment we arranged for was not nice.

We walked up to the Metropole and they gave us a lovely room for E65.

I had never done this before, but I would attempt it again. At the time, we felt we had no choice but it turned out to be a great experience.

You have an idea from the booking sites what rooms are. You might get a terrific bargain.

BTW. It might not be for everyone, but we loved the location of the Metropole.

My wife and I are headed to Lisbon at the end of March. We booked at the Marriott. A little bit out of center of Lisbon, but at 82 euros for a four star hotel that has gotten rave reviews, who can beat it?
