Hotel in Greece
 

In mid June we are going to Greece with two kids. We are thinking of staying at the following hotels. Any information on these hotels or any other choices would be great.
Athens - Hotel Tempi or Hotel Attalos
Paros - Manis Inn
Naxos - Nissaki beach hotel
Santaroni - Oia-Volcano villas or Anemomilos Hotel
Delphi -Hotel Varonos or Acropole Hotel
Nafplio - Bryon Hotel
Any suggestions for hotels around Meteora.
Also if we are going to the greek islands in mid June is it necessary to book the hotels before we go? I just worry that if it is windy and the ferry doesnt go to the island then i will loose the deposit. Will it be crowded in Mid June? I know that it is in July and August.

For the best place to stay while at Meteora go to Kastraki. It is much closer to the monastaries than Kalambaka (where almost everyone stays). We stayed at the Hotel Kastraki and had a view of several monastaries from our room. It's relativly inexpensive and less touristy.

There's really nothing you can do about the winds, but the chances of the large car ferries actually being stopped by them isn't all that likely. Prebooking in June really isn't necessary, but with 2 kids in tow you might want to anyway to keep from tiring them out as you walk around looking for rooms. If you're travelling by ferry you'll be met at the docks by locals with rooms to rent, so as long as you can strike up a deal right then and there I guess it won't be much of a strain on anyone, especially since you'll be getting a free ride from your hosts or they'll be leading you by foot to their establishment and probably helping you carry your bags.

The price is reasonable at the Anemomilos and it's in a good location in Oia. I don't know the Volcano View but the fact that it has a parking lot tells me it's not in the heart of the village and there might be traffic noise from a nearby road.

I've stayed at the Attalos. It's a good budget hotel very close to Syntagma Square and the Plaka and Acropolis. There's a nice rooftop lounge for viewing the Parthenon at night. I think you'll be satisfied with it.

In mid June there are a lot of empty rooms still available on the islands and unless you have your mind set on a certain hotel you would always find accomodation. The exception would be Santorini if you wanted a room overlooking the Caldera.

Hotel Attalos is very basic but a good price. It had the distinction of having the smallest bathroom I have ever seen in my entire life in one of the rooms we stayed in, but the living space and balcony were more than adequate. When we returned at another time and had a different room, the living space was tiny and the bathroom was a decent size. Who knows which is better? Our large room with tiny bathroom had a great balcony with plenty of seating. The big plus to me was the rooftop bar (they have ice cream too), where watching the moon come up and the lights come on at the Acropolis remains one of my greatest memories. I'd certainly stay there again.

Yes, the Anemomilos is on the caldera with a wonderful view.

About the car ferries, it depends on where you are which company's ferry you'll use. Blue Star is one of them. From Athen/Piraeus to Santorini there are 3 companies ferries. Have a look at this website:

Postal, my room at the Attalos had the distinction of being trapezoidal-shaped. One wall was longer than the one opposite, and it was very narrow, making me suspect that the room had originally been a storage closet.

In Nafplio, the Byron Hotel is a lovely, renovated, somewhat "boutique" hotel in the old town. The location is unbeatable (but trying to find street parking for an automobile is sometimes tricky). I would definitely stay there again.

BUT ... depending on age of kids, it may not be absolutely the best choice. The Byron's rooms, even the larger ones, might get rather snug with 2 adults and 2 kids, and the bathrooms/showers are a bit small. There could be quite a traffic jam in the mornings.

Being in an older building, the rooms vary in size, so who knows? From the pictures on the web site, one of the rooms looks quite spacious. It would be best to reserve far in advance to book the largest room.

We stayed at the Volcano's Villas last June and it was nice. All rooms overlooked the caldera and it was quiet. The hotel is above the roadway so there was no road noise. It was only a 5 - 10 minute walk to the centre of Oia.
While there are lots of available rooms on the island at that time of year our hotel was fairly full. I think the caldera side fills faster.
We chose Oia over the other villages because it was quieter than the party scene in Fira. Although at sunset it gets pretty crowded with tourists from other parts of the island.

In Kastraki near Meteora, Dupiani House. Basic, but very clean. Lovely views of the mountains. The owner is very friendly and speaks English.

Much depends on how long u stay in each place and ages of yr kids. Would suggest the Art Gallery hotel in Athens located behind the Acropolis in a neighbourhood atmosphere and close to a metro station. The Nissaki is great on Naxos. Caldera side is great for adults but kids would enjoy the black beaches on the Kamari side of Santorini. The Acropole is great for Delphi. The Ilion is nicer in Nafplion and has a large studio comfortable for 4 persons - Byron does not. Kastraki is a good choice for Meteora.
Mid June is the best time to travel or September but school is in then. The islands are not crowded t this time although some hotels are popular and book up fast. The mainland is a different story during this season it's quite busy - I suggest u book ahead for Athens, Nafplion and Meteora especially since the hotels u are interested in are quite small and fill up quickly. Oh by the way if u take out travel insurance they will cover any expenses u incur due to weather conditions, strikes etc. So u don't lose yr deposit unless u decide to change yr plans even then most hoteliers will transfer it to another date shud u advise them early enough. As for the wind you'll find that you will appreciate it as it makes the high summer temperatures bearble. Have a great trip!

I stayed at the Hotel Acropole in Delphi two summers ago. I thought it very nice: comfortable, clean, and not too fancy. Ask for a room with a balcony/view.

Attalos Hotel is fabulous - a great value in an excellent location. Safe for the kids - a short walk to the flea market and the Plaka.

Might I make a recommendation for Napflion - we found the town expensive, so opted to stay 9km away in Tolo. We stayed in Tolo and drove the 10 minutes to Napflio every day. We stayed at Paradise Lost apartments and hotel and found it reasonable and the kids went nuts over the pool - it had a bridge, a small wading pool for babies, free floaties, a swim-up bar.

The OP was going to Greece in June. Back by now, I'd think.
