hotel in Fontainebleau? (to stay in the town, not the chateau please!)

Has anyone ever spent a couple of days in the town of Fontainebleau? We would like to take the kids hiking through the woods - paths are marked through boulder fields and I think they'll enjoy it. We would also like to visit the chateau so we're thinking of spending 2-3 nights there. Any recommendations or comments?

I've never stayed in Fontainbleau. But I visited the chateau and honestly I found the town very small and not interesting. I think 2-3 nights there is too much.

One night would do, and with kids you might think about staying at the Novotel of the Mercure. If you want something more upscale, there's the Napoléon.

Thanks for the input. We get to Paris late on a Friday, and were thinking of hiking the forest Saturday and going to the chateau later. 1-2 nights will do it. In the meantime, I'll check out the 2 hotels Underhill suggested. Thanks.

You're welcome. It's a nice place to spend some time in.
