Hi, Mary:
In June we stayed at the Hotel Luxor, which is on a side street off Via Nazionale and is not a short walk to the train station but is only a 15 or 20-minute walk. The area right around the station is kinda dicey, but we had no trouble when we walked there to get on our hop-on, hop-off bus tour of the city.

We had a quad room for $170 a night, and it was fine and very quiet for such a busy area. The employees were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is ugly on the outside but typical for so many moderately-priced European city hotels. Lots of shopping and restaurants in that area. Breakfast is included, but after eating those same Italian hotel breakfasts for 10 days previously, the only one in our family who would touch it was my husband (why do Italians insist on ruining croissants with that yuccky filling and that yuckky lemon topping?).

That said, when I return to Rome, I will probably choose a different hotel, just because I would rather be in a bit nicer area. But I had no complaints about the Luxor. There also were some similar hotels in that area -- try venere.com to find other choices.

Pam B.
