Hotel in Capri

My wife and I are going to Capri in late September. Any recommendation for a good hotel? Any tips to get better rates?

We stayed at Hotel Luna. The price was resonable for the area. We weren't happy with our room. There was a view of the wall and the towels were not very soft. But the hotel had a great view, beatiful gardens, a great pool and the buffet breakfast was excellent. We also liked that the hotel was more secluded than others we saw in Capri yet still centrally located.
Hi Harold; I topped your message so I could find my Italy file. I styed at the La Minerva and loved it. There is no pool; but in Sept. the ocean is still warm enough for swimming also some of the hotels will let you use their pool for a samll fee. The Minerva is not quite half way up the hill ; I found it very convient about a 10-15 min. walk into centeral Capri.
I booked a superior room with views from every room even the bathroom. Our bathroom was beautiful with the gorgeous tiles you see evertwhere. The staff was excellent ...could not be more helpful...they will meet you at the bottom of the hill and help you with your luggage etc. You can have breakfast in your room on your private balcony if you want. I would definately go for the superior room it was well woth it.
To find out more log onto www.karenbrown.com the punch Italy B&B's then punch inns by region (Naples) and you should find it. You can access the website and get the email adress
Good luck
la dolce Capri
Sherri

Hi Harold,

I stayed at La Minerva and also checked out the Luna. I wrote up extensive notes and recommendations for Capri on fodors, so if you type in "kiki" to the search box, it will come up.

I found kiki's posts deplorable and misleading. Kiki teaches how to defraud the Italian transportation system. After spending hundreds on every silly vanity ("but it's worth it") kiki revels in cheating on the modest amount asked for by taxpayer subsidized ferry passes. Sort of a reverse Robin Hood, that steals from the poor and gives to the rich. What else does kiki cheat on when on such an "honor system"?

And the wobbly display of ethics seems to carry over to setting the travel agenda. Seemingly unaware of the core, well documented attractions of various sites, kiki flits from concierge to overpaid guide for bits and pieces of information which must be garbled by the schmoozing process and ends up with startling omissions and miscomparisons which are archly reported as wisdom.

I look forward to debunking the
"well, happenstance led me to do (or skip) so-and-so, and boy am I glad I did" school of scatterbrained travel. Some of us research ahead from solid sources, visit, and know the most obvious things the kiki approach missed. Also we spent money wisely, and if had enough to firehose all over the place, perhaps donated it to charity rather than such self indulgence.

I just returned from Capri and spent 3 wonderful days at Villa Brunella...check it out. We had a large balcony facing the ocean, with a view of Capri as well. Small, family owned hotel, excellent food, personable service. It's a longer walk from the center of the action which was good for me but might be seen as a negative to others. This is a Karen Brown recommended hotel.
