For the less-traveled areas of Eastern Europe, Lonely Planet has great coverage on their web site (as well as their books--look at where the Russia book covers).

But the web site does aim often at backbackers and others who travel on a limited budget--nothing wrong with that, but remember that when you see reponses on their boards (I was flamed once when I recommended a guide, as several people said that those on a limited budget don't have enough money to spend $30-100/day on a local guide).

Funny, if you had to narrow down one annoying topic on LonelyPlanet.com, it would be "where do I pick up lasses in Eastern Europe?". Here, it is "what color trousers should I wear?" I guess the common thread is both audiences want to know "where", or "wear."
