Hotel in between Gatwick and Heathrow Airport (london)

We will be flying from Rome into Gatwick airport, landing in the evening. The next day is our flight back home (11am) but it is from the Heathrow airport. Any suggestions on a good hotel just to stay for 1 night? We are looking for something less than 100 euros. Really something that is not fancy, just a good bed to sleep in and not noisy and of course in a good location due to airport changes. Let me know if you need more details.

I've stayed here - http://www.springwoodguesthouse.co.uk/ - several times. They'll pick you up and drop you off at Gatwick airport, and there's a good pub nearby for dinner. However, you'd still have to get to Heathrow the next morning. (I'd take the National Express coach between the airports.)

I'd take the bus to Heathrow and stay in a hotel there. You will need to be at the airport by 8 AM or shortly thereafter. So not enough time for any sightseeing. And you don't want to deal with 2 separate trips, Gatwick to X and X to Heathrow. Just more possibility for things to go wrong.

You bring up a good point. And I don't plan to do any sightseeing. I went ahead and submitted a post for hotels near Heathrow. How long does the bus take from Gatwick to Heathrow? IS National Express coach the best way to get there or are there other ways?

"<i>IS National Express coach the best way to get there or are there other ways?</i>"

National Express is the only practical/reasonable way to get from LGW to LHR.

If your times were different -- you could easily go into central London by train and then take the tube out to LHR the next day. But for this quick layover from LGW to LHR - just take the NE coach.

If there's more than two of you in the group you might find a car service is cheaper than the coach - plus you'd get dropped off at the hotel.

The coach runs £43 for two. A car will cost nearly twice that. For three, the coach is still a bit cheaper but a car may be worth it for the convenience. For four, a car service becomes a bargain -- unless there is so much luggage that a larger/more expensive vehicle is required.

We arrive at gatwick at 15:30 so actually that is 5:30pm. Can we take the Train and tube? Would it be better if we are staying at a hotel near the Heathrow Airport?

I mistyped, I meant we to say 17:30 which is 5:30pm.

"Would it be better if we are staying at a hotel near the Heathrow Airport?"

Who can possibly say? Except you

If your flight arrive at Gatwick at 1730, you'll probably get off the train at a central London station at about 1930, or off the bus at Heathrow about 2000, getting yuo to the hotel at 2030

Assume it's a weekday, so the FCC train runs to St Pancras, where there's a decent hotel right over the station. To be at Heathrow for 0900 the following morning, you need to be on a tube leaving St Pancras at 0800, or on a bus leaving your hotel at 0830.

Whether you'd rather spend the ~12 hrs in between in the world's greatest city or stuck in an airport hotel is up to you. Both are equally possible and both are about as painful, or painless, as each other.

If you are looking for a sophisticated stay, you can go for Sofitel hotel in terminal 5 of Heathrow airport. Since, your return flight is from Heathrow, it might be perfect for you. Also, it is the only hotel with direct access to terminal 5 of the airport. You can visit - http://www.heathrowterminal5.com/hot...n-heathrow-t5/ - for more details.
