Hotel in Bellagio
We will be in Bellagio, Italy July 22-24th - our first visit there. Do you have any recommendations on a great hotel in the city center- in a three star price range?
Thanks, Libby |
We liked Hotel Belvedere, but it wasn't in the city center (10 minute walk from the city - you gain in views what you lose in convenience). I think we paid 170 euro back during the first week of May.
I'd urge you to jump on the reservations ASAP, as my understanding is that it is a busy time of year. |
We are booked into a large, full lake view double with (small) balcony at the Hotel Florence for 170 euros, including breakfast and taxes (we will probably pay in cash, as there is an 8% discount for doing so) for the end of September. The Hotel Florence (a 3-star hotel) is currently rated the number 1 hotel in Bellagio on Trip Advisor (the Florence and Belvedere are the two runaway favorite hotels and they seem to alternate "pole position" on Trip Advisor and here). It is in the village center (Bellagio is too small to be considered a city, IMO), about a two minute walk from the fast ferry dock.
I stayed there last year and greatly enjoyed it. I thought their lakeside outdoor restaurant was even better than the much-praised Bilacus. It's not air conditioned, though, something you might want to consider, and the Belvedere is. But as hunnym noted, hotels there fill up FAST, I would second the suggestion that you check ASAP to see who has rooms left for those dates. |
I second the suggestion for the Belvedere. It is one of our favorite hotels in Italy. Very nice rooms with incredible views. Make sure to ask for a lakeview room with balcony. It is located at the top of Bellagio only a five minute walk to many restaurants, shops, etc.

Ohhhh, Bellagio is lovely! I am just back from a visit there a week ago (still fighting jet lag...:) ). I highly recommend this destination, and restaurant Bilicus is wonderful (get reservations to sit outside, though!). As far as hotels...I would steer you away from Hotel du Lac. It has a few good points, but we were somewhat disappointed by our experience there. The management and staff had a bit of an attitude, the decor in the rooms was uninspiring, and the water in the bath/shower is only available in scalding or cold...among other problems. Also, the cleaning was inconsistent, and once one of the staff left a yellow rubber glove in our room. It was also fairly noisy at night. You can certainly do better in Bellagio. Enjoy your trip!

Another strong vote for the Belvedere. In addition to the previus comments, a wonderful staff adds enormously to the experience.
