Hotel in Bayeux, France
 

Wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a hotel in Bayeux, France. We have been considering the Hotel Churchill or Villa Lara. If anyone has stayed at either of these places or has another suggestion, we would be grateful!

We stayed at Le Lion d’Or, 71, rue Saint Jean, 14400 Bayeux
Phone: 33 2 3192 0690, and liked it very much. We walked to it from the railway station. The hotel was charming, and the dining room was gorgeous and with good food, as well.

Let me recommend dinner at Le Petit Bistrot. It's small, so you might need to make a reservation if you go there.

Agree with Carolyn; We also stayed there and there was parking on an inner courtyard if you have a car.

Liked this hotel a lot. Had a very nice lunch in the dinning room.

We stayed at Hotel d'Argouges, across from the cathedral and within easy walking distance of Tapestry and Le Petit Bistro, which I heartily recommend, also!

If you're interested in a B&B, the Villa Aggarthi B&B is just a block from both the tapestry and the square where a lot of the van tours start. Check out the ratings on sites such as TripAdvisor and booking.com.

Stayed at the Villa Lara in October. Loved it- the room was very nice. The photos on the website do not do the rooms justice. The Hotel Churchill is next door and appeared to be nice. Both are perfectly located in lovely Bayeaux.

We have stayed at the Hotel Churchill as well as Hotel Reine Mathilde. Both were perfect for us as they were well maintained, comfy, great location, and very helpful staff. I would definitely stay at either one again without any hesitation.

We stayed at the Churchill in a quad room and loved it. Room was a good size, large bathroom, staff was fantastic.

We stayed at the Churchill in 1998 & 2002. Great location on a pedestrian street but still had easy parking. The room was comfortable with a nice bathroom. Looks like it's been refurbished since then and gets good reviews on Trip Advisor.

Here are excerpts from my TR. We stayed in the Churchill and at Chateau de Dagminy just outside of town. We preferred the later but we are Guest House types (and the food was outstanding). Getting into town and parking is very easy though you'll need a car.

<b>Bayeux , Churchill Hotel (2 nights)</b>
1 family room, 190€/night. Stayed here because the chateau below wasn’t available all 5 nights. Nice choice for staying in town. Parking worked out but their claim that they have parking is a little dubious (not 24 hrs in my book though there are some options that aren’t too far away). Very helpful and friendly staff, particularly the gentleman in the afternoon. Pricey breakfast was not included so we ate elsewhere.

<b>Bayeux, Chateau de Damigny (3 nights)</b>

2 rooms, €80 each including breakfast. 5 minute drive into Bayeux. Family run and very peaceful. Fairly new B&B with 5 rooms. Rooms were nice; nothing fancy about the common areas or outside but friendly. Best part was the ”table d’hotes” with the hosts and other guests. 28€ pp (half for kids) including multiple course and drinks. Vincent has trained as a chef in addition to running the B&B and the food was outstanding and spending the night with the other guests was very enjoyable. We did it two nights. Best food of the week; felt very French. Highly recommended.

We stayed in the Villa Lara in March 2012 just after it opened. We thought it was excellent. Very nice room, service and overall hospitality. Same owners as the Churchill next door. Very convenient to Overlord shuttle for D-Day tours and also Churchill's van to Mont-St. Michel. If we were to return to Bayeux, we would pick the Villa Lara again.

Another traveler happy with Lion d'Or. Historic property. Family owned for generations. Have the owner tell you WWII stories. Excellent dining at hotel.

If you want an economical alternative to these, the Hotel Bayeux is excellent. large rooms, 5 minutes from the Tapestry,Cathedral and Le Petit Bistro (renamed, I think), and with a car park and 3 blocks from the main road out of town to the beaches. Squeaky clean, nice breakfast room.

We liked L'Ecrin, which also has a walled courtyard to parking and is not far from the water.

Very close to the Cathedral & Lion d Or/Hotel Churchill is a former private mansion now called Hotel Tardif Noble which is an OUTSTANDING place to stay in Bayeux.

Anthoney speaks English well , gourmet breakfast, and they have secure parking
