You need to quantify what you're looking for from the lodging. Star ratings in Europe are not like AAA diamond ratings - they're more dependent upon the services offered than the actual experience at the hotel.
Why the port and Las Ramblas? Stay near Placa Catalunya and you'll be close to the heart of the city and only a short walk (or shorter Metro ride) to the Port.

If you wan to stay in or close to the Plaça Catalunya, then you can check out the hotels Olivia Plaza, Catalonia Plaza Cataluña, Husa Barcelona, Pulitzer and the Regina. All are 4-star properties to varying degrees and price ranges.

Just got back from Barcelona. We stayed at a bed and breakfast called Marina View B&B. The manager, Paddy, is great and very helpful. It is right near the Columbus statue and close to Las Ramblas and the Metro.( a very short walk) We had the Captains room which had a lovely view of the marina.

Try either the Rivoli Ramblas or the Royal opposite. Both 4 star, close to the Placa de Catalunya and right on the Ramblas.

I've stayed in the Montecarlo which is on La Ramblas several times and I recommend it. The hotel is quiet despite the noise on LR; it is within walking distance, easy walking distance of the Gothic Quarter sights, close to Placa Catalunya, etc.
