Hotel in Barcelona

My husband and I are wishing to have 4-5 nights in Barcelona on our return from a cruise. Both in our 60's but would love downtown, cafe/tapas area and easy to transport . The area of Eixample has been recommend to us, but open to any suggestions, our budget is AUD $150-$200 per night, or there abouts??

Thanks

I am sure others will have more experience but when we were in Barcelona for five nights a few years ago, we stayed at Sixty-Two Hotel and were very pleased with both the hotel and the location.

The Sixty-Two Hotel may be a bit out of your range unless you do a non-refundable prepay.

You may want to look at something like the Gran Vía 678, or the Catalonia Born Hotel.

In any case, you should check booking.com to see what's available on your dates.

You should check into renting a flat - that budget won't get you too far with a hotel - that's only 105-140E per. Go to www.apartur.com and check out the highly competitive (and regulated) Barcelona tourist apartment offerings.

Hotel Banys Orientals would be a great option, excellent place and 105€ for a double: http://www.hotelbanysorientals.com/en/
http://www.booking.com/hotel/es/banys-orientals.html

Right in the medieval and vibrant Born district with great cafes, terraces, tapas bars, restaurants, sights and shopping. A cradle for Catalan identity and culture. And it's close to "everything", next door to the Gothic quarter and the Ciutadella park, and close to both Placa Catalunya, Las Ramblas and the Barceloneta Beach: http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.c...s/el-born.html

The Born market (the oldest in town) has now reopened as a cultural center focusing of the three hundred years since Catalunya lost its independence to Spain in 1714. http://elborncentrecultural.bcn.cat/en

Banys Orientals is a great suggestion. If booked we have stayed at Hotel Regencia Colon which is nearby - right by the Barcelona Cathedral (not Sagrada)

El Born is very lively and busy any time of day.
Central Example is more upscale shopping , Gaudi buildings , wide bulewards.
Barcelona has an excellent on metro system...no problem moving around.
I like Granados 83 ( in your price range) but it may not be as " downtown"
as you wish to be.

Sorry to you all for the delay in thanking you for your very good comments. I will look at all of these and decide. Is noise a big factor in the downtown hotels?
