Hotel in Athens

We are planning a trip to Kephalonia (staying with a friend) and Santorini (staying at the Atlantis Villas...anyone been there? any comments?) in August and will spend our first and last night in Athens. Does anyone have suggestions for hotels that are close to the sites since we have limited time in Athens? I was looking at the Acropolis View, Acropolis House and the Athenian Inn.

Thanks!

I stayed at the Acropolis View Hotel in June 98 and we thought it was great. It's on a side street in walking distance to the Acropolis and the Parthenon faces the hotel. The hotel has a wonderful rooftop garden with the best view of the Acropolis in the city. They have breakfast every morning which was very good, cheese, meat, bread, tomatoes, cucumbers with coffee and juice. It's walking distance to downtown and to the Plaka area. Tour buses come right to the main street so you just walk a very short distance if you take a tour outside Athens. I booked it over the Internet and we paid about $55 a night for a double room. It has air conditioning and a phone in the room and a radio. No TV and it's a small room but very quaint. We were very satisfied with it and would definitely stay there again. There were tourists from all over Europe and we met some very interesting people. It's worth it just for the light show on the Acropolis at night.
Have a good time,
Carol

I've stayed at the Acropolis View, the Athenian, and the Phillipos. Of the three I vote for Acropolis View. None of these are fancy.

I know a very good hotel nearby the Acropolis View, it is called Hotel Byron and is qualitative but not expensive. Their fax is 0030-1-3220276 and address 19 Vironos Str./Plaka.
Good luck!
For any info on traveling the Greek Islands, try this:
http://www.paros-online.com
Greetings
Martina
P.S. Don't forget August is peak season and the most expensive and fully booked period... so book in advance!
I'll also vote for the Acropolis View. *If* the "Text Search" is working you'll find other posts about this hotel, all positive I believe. I thought the buffet b'fast was better than average for a 3* hotel and I believe it's the closest hotel to the Acropolis entrance. HTH Regards, Walter
