Hotel in Athens?
 

My husband and a friend are joining our cruise in Athens.As they will be getting into Athens around midnight and will be meeting the ship in the morning, they do not need great accommodation, but just a decent clean hotel. Is such a thing near the cruise terminal and is it a safe area? If not, can anybody recommend a clean decent hotel? We are unfamiliar with Athens and do not know in which area to start looking?

A lot of us have stayed at the Attalos. It's not near the cruise terminal - it's beside the Plaka - but it's very reasonably priced. I think the front desk is also open all night as well. <BR> <BR>We found taxis quite inexpensive in Athens as well. So it's not a lot of money to go from the airport to the hotel.

Hi Lisa, I assume arriving at the airport and departing from Piraeus? Piraeus is ~10+km SW from the city center. While I have no 1st hand info outside of hanging out in the bars in P-town as a 20yr old sailor 26 yrs ago:). I have used this Greek company twice to book hotels in Greece (do a search on Dilos) and they do have 2 hotels in Piraeus. The 4* Noufara Hotel is closest (within .5mi) and actually cheaper than the 3* hotel (93 Euros/double). www.dilos.com/hotel/athens_hotels.html <BR> I would just keep this as an option, I'm sure someone will post some 1st hand hotel info with possibly a lower rate. We stayed at the Attalos (Before our Yacht charter and the Acropolis View, afterwards) both hotels resonably priced, clean and both had views of the Acropolis, though at the Attalos the rooms with those views had to be requested in advance. Neither hotel was 4 star or filled with amenities, but staff at both hotels was outstanding. Attalos had a very nice location, close to Plaka (Better location then Acropolis view) but was much more of a no frills hotel. We also began and ended our charter at Pireaus Port and found taxi service in Athens fine. YOu may find out if your cruise will include a transfer to and from your hotel. The Attalos has a nice rooftop bar and they were there to great us at 3 am when we got into town.
