Hotel in Arles
 

I am looking at the Hotel d'Arlatan and the Hotel Calendal and was hoping to get some feedback as to convenience to restaurants sights etc.
All insight is appreciated THANKS

We stayed at Hotel d'Arlatan in April 2002 and really enjoyed it. Everything was within walking distance and at the time there was an excellent restaurant, Brin au Thyme (or something close to that) right around the corner and a fantastic glace (ice cream) shop, Solelis (sp? again) across from the restaurant.

I have stayed at d'Arlatan and was also pleased with its location. One note that might help you if you are driving a car is to bear in mind that staying within the walled city was (for us) a major pain. As with many streets in European cities, the streets are barely wide enough for two cars to pass. Some corners actually required backing up to make two passes to make the corner. Some of the streets are one way, and the direction may change and/or a street may be blocked off on market days. Even though the location was great for seeing Arles itself, we were using Arles as a base, and getting in and out of the old city every day was a pain. No complaints about the hotel itself. PJK

Le Calendal is great; I wasn't driving, though, so I'm not sure about its convenience to sights outside Arles. I knnow there's a parking lot you can use just up and behind the hotel.

In terms of Arles itself, Calendal is perfectly located. Plenty of restaurants and all sites are well within walking distance.

It's a fun little town. Enjoy.

We have stayed at the Hotel Calendal on two occasions and would stay there again. Air-conditioned rooms with a nice outdoor garden eating area, it is situated above the Roman arena and across the street from the Roman theater. The Place du Forum is four blocks walk and other sites are equally close. Parking can be tough, but we always found a place nearby.

We have stayed at Le Calendal and would certainly do so again. It was easy to find, they give you good directions and was a dream price 45 euros.

Their breakfasts are huge and good, they operate a tea house during the day. We also had a beautiful meal at the restaurant Au Brin du Thym. It's just a short walk from the hotel.

If you want to stay there I would urge you to reserve a parking spot through them. As already mentionned otherwise parking is difficult.

I stayed at the Hotel d'Arlatan several years ago and found it to be a lovely, reasonably priced, well located hotel. Glad to read that it is still popular!

Le Calendal.

Pretty, very clean, comfortable, 6-car parking lot beside the hotel, centralo to everything.

When we stayed at the Hotel d'Arlatan three years ago, there was an attached car garage. You must make reservations ahead (space is limited) and get directions on the best way to access the hotel w/ car. We loved the hotel. Great location for sights, restaurants, and shops. I'd go back any day! Doesn't sound like you'd go wrong with either choice. Price may be the deciding factor. Breakfast was extra if I recall but a good one (incl. eggs and meats). You eat inside or outside in the courtyard area.

We stayed at the Calendal two years ago. It was comfortable, convenient to all. The parking garage attached to the hotel was very very small, it would have taken alot of maneuvering to get our car in or out, so we opted to park in the lot up the street from the hotel. Worked out fine. I will warn you tho, and to some people this is an issue, there is no lift in the Calendal, you have to climb stairs to your room with your luggage.
