Hotel in Amsterdam for under $100/night?
Or should I keep dreaming?
3-4 nights in Amsterdam is part of our 2+ week trip to Europe (May 25-June 12), but my husband and I are paying down debt, saving for a house and really want to stick to a budget of around $4000 for the trip.(We used our FF miles for the cross-continental airfare, so I think our budget should be doable... I hope) Plus, we are traveling with friends who are also on budgets. Are there any decent hotels in a convenient area of Amsterdam for under $100 USD? Or are we just going to have to hostel it? Thanks a lot! |
The StayOkay hostel near Vondelpark has double rooms for about 80 Euros, and it's supposed to be very nice. If you can avoid the weekends, that may help with price.
I liked the well-located Best Western Eden, which has mixed reviews, but should be fine in your circumstances. Try the Best Western site and try http://www.booking.com . |
Depending on your own particular definition of "convenient" and "decent" you might want to have a look at www.channels.nl which shows hotel locations and has user reviews.

Thanks.I actually checked out the StayOkay hostel, and it seems to be already booked for our dates. Strange.
I guess to me, decent is clean and pretty comfortable. And convenient is within walking distance of some sites, or at least near a good tram line that can take us to them quickly. |
I booked the Marriot for $90 USD a night last summer on Priceline. We were SO pleased. Check biddingfortravel.com to help you out. It doesn't hurt to try! I booked about 2 weeks before our trip.

We've stayed at the Hotel Prinsenhof. Basic, friendly staff, inexpensive and a great location. Not all rooms are en suite, but we rarely encountered other guests.

I've found good rates on www.hotels.nl

It's worth it to do a google search for "bed breakfast Amsterdam" to see what you turn up. Amsterdam has many charming and very hospitable B&Bs in prime locations. Also, I found the Holland Tourist Board to be very helpful via e-mails.

I remember PalQ previously recommended this place, and it looks good:

We took a group this summer and stayed at the Owl Hotel. Good rates, very clean, great breakfast. Try www.owl-hotel.nl

It might be early to book May-June for some hotels/hostels.... try back in January if you see one you really liked.

I was interested in a double room at the StayOkay Vondelpark last year - and I remember for my dates it was booked up six months in advance (confirmed by email). I imagine it's just very popular.

www.kaphotel.nl
is where i stayed and fits your price range. adequate hotel, generous breakfast included, great location, easy to get to from the airport on Connexxion bus. |
We stayed at Boogards Bed and Breakfast. You can find more about them on tripadvisor.com. We had a two bedroom apt that would be in your price range for the two couples. It had a great kitchen which the owner, Peter fully stocked repeatedly throughout the trip. Plus having all of the extra space was very nice and they have a great rooftop deck where you can have cocktails or breakfast. The hosts Peter and Tomas were great and not intrusive. Plus the location was wonderful near the Van Gogh museum etc. A great restaurant Touisents was around the corner.
Another bargain place I look for hotels is www.gtahotels.com I was first nervous since you have to prepay in advance but it worked out great and when we cancelled one night, they promptley refunded our money. The hotels we stayed at through them were wonderful plus they include breakfast. So in Brussels we stayed at the Le Meriden for $150 a night (tax and breakfast included). When we went to breakfast we saw that it was $35 per person we were glad we had our deal. Hope this helps, itsv |
I stayed at Clemens Hotel, Raadhuisstraat 39, great location, clean, breakfast included, single for 55 euro's. Booked it thru internet sight unseen, no problems. www.clemenshotel.com

I had hoped to stay at the Hotel Brouwer but it was full so I stayed at the Hotel Hoksbergen which I found on Tripadvisor.com The rooms are very small but are ensuite. The free breakfast is excellent as is the location. It is a small canal house right on the canal. Great restaurants close by and within easy walking distance of most tourist destinations. For the money it was great.

We also used Priceline for a hotel last May. We got the Renaissance for less than $100.

I'm currently searching April 15, and not all hotels even have their 2007 rates posted! Channels.nl can give you a list of hotels with average review rate by the *, **, *** and the price. Also check Expedia to sort out by price and location.
