hotel in Amsterdam

I would appreciate any suggestions of a well located nice hotel in Amsterdam for a young woman travelling alone.

My personal favorite in Amsterdam is the Ambassade. Very nice location and lovely rooms in a series of nicely converted townhouses, with a young, friendly, and helpful staff. I have seen quite a few single business people staying there, both male and female. It is in the upper moderate range, less than something like the Pulitzer, but a lot more character than the big hotels.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Pulitzer for the last three days of our honeymoon. Loved it! Beautiful rooms, great location. Would highly recommend it.

While I wouldn't say the rooms at the Pulitzer were outstanding, everything else was. The staff is super-friendly, and I really liked the location for visiting the Jordaan, museum district and for shopping downtown. (I like to walk.) Loved the breakfasts at the Pulitzer too. I wasn't alone but I would feel safe in the area.
