Hotel Help - Nice, Avignon, Bayeux

I am looking for hotel suggestions for the cities listed above. My husband and I generally prefer to stay in moderately priced mid-scale hotels that offer local charm. Of course if there is a "budget" hotel that is fantastic, we'd take that! Thanks in advance.

There was a recent thread here on Bayeux that mentioned the Churchill and the Leon d'Or and perhaps others in positive terms. A few years ago, I stayed at the Chateau d'Argouges and can recommend it highly.

We stayed at the Hotel Churchill in June 2007 and loved it. We had two rooms, one was very nice, but very tiny. The other was very large, lol! There is no lift, but that is the only negative, if that even matters to you. The location is great and the owners/staff are very helpful. I can't remember exactlty, but am thinking our rooms were right around 90 and 120 euro each. We would definitely stay there again!

We stayed at the Hotel d'Argouges in Bayeux in 2005, and I would recommend it highly for a reasonably priced hotel in a great location in the town. The common areas were charming; the rooms were less charming but certainly adequate. The owners and staff were very helpful and friendly.

We liked the Hotel le Grimaldi in Nice. Here's my trip report from Nice, including details on the hotel and restaurants and day-trips:

We really enjoyed our three-night visit to Nice. A charming little city.

sharrison I had the pleasure of staying at the Churchill Hotel. It was wonderful. The owners are really sweet and made our trip really nice. The breakfast that's included with the room was delish. I highly recommend the Churchill. Check out their website. I had emailed the hotel for info several times and I got a answer email back within a day.

Enjoy your trip to France.
