Hotel Help N. Italy

Traveling with another couple in late October to Milan, Venice, Florence and Sienna. Would love some advice on where to stay in Venice, Florence and Sienna. We are also going to Portofina and staying at the Grand Hotel Miramare. Don't want to break the bank on hotels but do want to stay somewhere nice. Good rooms, food and service.(I guess everyone wants that) Any direction would really be appreciated.

Hi bert,

This is a very general question.

I suggest that you go to www.venere.com, find two or three hotels, check them on www.tripadvisor.com and ask here about your specific choices.

We did N & central Italy for our honeymoon and stayed in wonderful places averageing 110 euro with private bath (June 03). use this board, check tuscany.net
Look for inns, b&b, agriturisimos, etc. We stayed in the Hotel galleria in venice, Hotel Speronari in Milan, and I've heard the hotel dali in Florence is nice (I won't recommend where we stayed!). Enjoy!

Thanks to those who replied. I knew it was about as vague as could be. It is just that after searching the fodors site as well as the rest of the internet I was lost in too much information. Wanted to just get pointed in the right direction. Will continue to scan and just pick what I hope is right. Then report back on the return.
Thanks
