hotel HELP in Prague
 

I've read, searched, blogged, read some more the different hotels in Prague. We're going the beginning of April, and need a place to stay. Cannot afford 5 star, and probably not a 4 star either.. Any suggestions? I have been referred to Hotel U Krize, but not sure with mixed reviews. thanks.

We stayed at the Hotel U Tri Bubnu (hotel of the three drums) on U Radnice, just around the corner from the old town square. It was a very good hotel - I don't know what the star level is, but the location was great, the service was friendly, and our room was spacious and comfortable. My only complaint was that the shower was wimpy.

We stayed three nights at the Hotel Residence Mala Strana—got a cheap rate (50 Euro/night for a double) through booking.com. It's definitely a budget hotel but had a kitchenette, free breakfast and I loved the location—right by the river. We'd stay there again.

Perch:
Our famiily favorite (three different couples in my family have stayed there based on our recommendation over the years). Was closed for a year for comlete renovation. All loved it. The lLocation smack on the Charles Bridge...easy walking to Old town or Mala Strana (lesser town). Many of the rooms have a great view of the bridge...ask when reserving.
Good restaurant also.

we also loved Hotel U Tri Bubnu about 6 years ago. at the time, it was fairly inexpensive-- and you can walk anywhere from there. concerts happen all around that area-- bridge walk is just a few minutes-- lots of tourists there, but our room was quiet. we also had the hotel arrange an airport pickup which was a first for us-- it was seamless.

How many are you? Four of us stayed in the Lesser Town Square loft apartment last October and LOVED it! (http://prague-stay.com/) We had a view of Castle Hill from our window and St. Nicholas church was practically close enough to touch. I loved staying in Mala Strana and walking across the Charles Bridge every day.

Ooops, I just took another look at the website and we stayed in the Baroque two bedroom apartment. I'm sure they're all great through.

We stayed at the hotel Unitas for 4 nights in January it is a great hotel in a great position for walking everywhere and at a great price. Would definitely recommend. www.unitas.cz

We stayed at the Savic Hotel a couple of years ago and would stayed there again. It's a couple of blocks from the Old Town Square.

By beginning of April if you mean by chance the easter weekend, it's TOP seasons with the highest prices for Prague hotels. I too recommande above mentioned Residence Mala Strana 3* but about 7 years ago when I stayed there during Easter weekend, the room for 2 was €90 or so (but paid only €30.- for November last year so) prices vary a lot depending on the time/dates whene you are going.

Savic is a very popular 5* hotel. It can offer very low price in low season ( I saw 2 winters ago about € 80, that's very low for this hotel ) but would expecet to pay double/triple for April.

We stayed at the hotel Kampa Garden twice. It is a 3* best described as an upscale budget small hotel, all non smoking. Its location is hard to beat -IMO the best location in Prague. www.kampagarden-prague.com

The Three Ostriches: U Tri Pstrosu and Hotel Kampa Garden are about 200 yards apart. The former at the foot of the Charles Bridge in Lesser Town and the latter on Kampa Island which is under the bridge in peacefful and quiet location. From the island there are stairs going up onto the bridge, about one flight so not many at all, or one can walk around to the ramp at the foot of the bridge where the Three Ostriches is. Some rooms at Kampa Garden have views accross the river to Old Town - beautiful especially at night. Rooms in the back have park views. Both hotels are near some very nice restaurants
on the Island, near the park and near where one can take a narrated boat ride on the river or canal. Both hotels are no more than 5-10 minute interesting walk to the square at the heart of Old Town. The Bridge itself is a lively place.

Agree, either hotel would be a convienent location. As basingstoke2 said, 5 or 10 minutes on level ground to the 'old town' or perhaps 10 minutes to the castle in the opposite direction up grade. Our last time in Prague, there was a coral group from the US singing, very near our hotel. A lovely experience.
