hotel help in Nice
Hi All,
my business partner and i will be spending one day only in Nice and would like to capture the feel for the place while we are there. from what ive read, the "old town" is meant to be charming, and a good night spot as well, but i cant seam to find any decent hotels in the Vielle Ville. anyone have recommendations for a decent 3* or 4* hotel in Vielle Ville? does it matter if we stay in Vielle Ville or right near it? i'd appreciate also any recs. for something decent right near there... looking to spend about 150$ plus minus... thank you!!! |
Staying near Vieux Nice is fine, and there are a number of good hotels right on the fringe. We like the Mercure Promenade des Anglais, which shares a wall with Le Meridien--the hotel has a bright modern décor using Provençal colors.
If you'd prefer something very contemporary (and, IMO, cold), there's the Beau Rivage, which is more of a business hotel. Both those hotels are within a 2-block of Vieux Nice, and both are 3*. For 4* there's Le Meridien and the La Pérouse, both pricey; the Meridien is a chain hotel, while the La Pérouse is offers considerably more charm. |
thanks Underhill.... i liked the Mercure, and cheacked out their site, however, since we might travel 3 of us, we need to take either a suite or a bigger room for 3... Mercure doesnt have that...
c'mon everyone - any help in finding a hotel? (i dont have a problem searching, but as i dont know the areas, its really hard to see where the locations are...)!! |
We recently stayed at the Hotel Suisse. It was great. It's on the bay, with amazing views, about 100 yards from the Vieille Ville. Good sized room, well decorated, with small balcony. Nice front desk staff. Well worth 180 euros a night.

The Beau Rivage is near the old section and the flower market.

When we stayed at the Mercure Promenade des Anglais we asked for a twin-bedded room and got the twin beds AND an additional bed up against the back wall. That might work for you.

I HATE the Negresco. I stayed there in 1999 and had terrible problems with the staff. They are very snooty, and with no good reason. The place was a dump with peeling paint and hideous bathroom decor.

We really enjoyed Comfort Hotel Roosevelt May 2007 - it's not fancy, but had nice, modernized rooms and the good reviews at TripAdvisor are well earned.
It's about 2 blocks from the pedestrian Place Massena shopping/restaurant venue (very high energy, lots of activity), which we preferred to the old town area, though both are nice. While in Nice, we checked out Hotel Suisse, which hadn't vacancies when we were reserving, and that looks like a good choice - views should be sweeping. Nice is so walkable that for one night you'll have a great time anywhere in the main tourist area. |
